some review:
This band shows big personality: the conceptual premises that gave birth to the four chapters included in this work have been developed with coherent attitude and maturity, and more than a passage here simply belongs not to a combo formed just a mere one year ago. A sparkling debut, to say the least. 8/10
Psychocean’s debut EP is largely satisfying, this band has so many different aspects that it’s quite difficult to catch them all after the first impression or listening. A self-produced release characterized by abrasive and defined sounds making this first work enjoyable for everyone.
8/10
The Sicilian band in these four songs is able to create a very original sound, in-between Neurosis and Voivod, with some heavy references to the deviant rhythmic patterns typical of Tool and for some extent to the melodic genius of of Porcupine Tree’ last period. Too much? Not at all. Psychocean succeeds in mixing all of the above without showing any dependence from the sources. The best way to understand Psychocean is to listen to Psychocean. 7,5/10
A good dose of technical skills and a fair number of neurons sweating hard allow the band to mix in the same room Cold and Helmet, while the threatening shadow of Maynard keeps on staring high from his gotha’ seat. 7/10
Arrangements, study, devotion and, why not, skilled preparation, do make the real difference here onto this demo. The permeated taste of heavy and styilish humus brings me back memories of Pink Floyd’ songs and some Hendrix too (and I assure they do not have anything in common with them…) The work is there, it should only be listened to, and appreciated.
It’s an EP full of ambition, an unusual work built on a strong concept, the jellyfish and its tentacles, the society’s turmoil turning men into puppets. An Ep without relevant faults definitely bringing them straight to the circle of musical distribution, with a conscious aim towards bright future. 7/10
Psychocean’s musical approach is near to Neurosis’s sound, with bonus references to Tool’s vocals and without the impending risk to become excessively difficult or awkward. This EP could easily be considered a starting point for people who are not familiar with the above type of music. 5/5
It was about time to feel the same emotion that I sensed while spinning Deftones "White Pony" and Tool "Aenima" …
A spectacular album to listen and listen to again, simply because real art should not be kept caged, but rather released inside us.
Almost like a tribute to George Orwell’s ‘1984’ prophecies, this EP is a promising beginning minus the naivety usually characterizing musical debuts. On the opposite, it’s an EP full of interesting starting points that will be certainly developed into the much anticipated band’s first full-length release.
Psychocean is a free-form project that took shape in Catania, Italy, at the beginning of 2007. Since the inception of the band, a non-stylistic choice was the way to go: every note, every single word flowed out of our minds just ad libitum.
“Embryonal Confinement” is Psychocean' debut MCD including 4 songs written between January and May 2007 and digitally recorded with engineer Graziano Manuele (Ueickap gtr player) midsummer of the same year. This record is a mini-concept dealing with new religion, the consumerism doctrine… People born as slaves of society’s prisonlike situations, doomed to be only pawns of a system which has lost every singular moral principle. Only individual mental capacity could overthrow this situation and set man free from impending psychic slavery.
Psychocean is also featured on “NeuroSounds Vol.1 : Stones From The Sky” with the track “Overtones”. “NeuroSounds…” is the very first compilation gathering the italian “post” scene, and it’s put together by NeuroPrison staff, Italian Neurosis and Post-Core forum (neuroprison.blogspot.com / neuroprison.forumfree.net)
Nowadays Psychocean are working on new songs and artwork which will be included on first full-length record.
New album will be released on early 2009.
