The Doctor will see you now…
Welcome to the realm of the PSYCHO SURGEONS. For the uninitiated, the Psycho Surgeons were a band with a twist; namely Wild Willi Beckett, a showman of rare ability, as the terrifying, axe-wielding Doctor. In various incarnations, they rampaged across the UK and Europe throughout the 80s and 90s, delighting fans and upsetting venues’ neighbours. Many a review mentioned a ‘total assault on the senses’ (or words to that effect). Mission accomplished.
Check out the 100s of Psycho Surgeons related photos and other gubbins plus a choice selection of bootleg
videos. Got more incriminating evidence against us? Please send it in.
One Last One: a film by Greg Brauns
Below is the superb short film about Wild Willi Beckett's last show with the Psycho Surgeons. To get the most out of this, you will want to turn off that bloody racket that the band is making via the music player above. Switch off mobile phones and thank you for not smoking during this performance. Unless you've just been set on fire by Dave Savage*, which is an acceptable excuse. Or if you want a cig, which is also acceptable. See you didn't get that sort of flexibility at the Odeon. This is probably why they're knocking it down :-)
More about the Psycho Surgeons' "One Last One" concert, 26 October 2006, can be found here.
* and the follow-up 2007 PSYCHO SURGEONS BECKETT TRIBUTE, with fire damage, is reviewed here.
Other Stuff...
• Back Catalogue
The entire Psycho Surgeons back catalogue is now available on a series of CDs (including a re-release of the 1989 LP Madhouse, two compilations of early material and the live double album "One Last One"). Visit our "records and CDs" page for details of how to order online.
• The Doctor's Song Book
...is published here. We have been supplied with stacks of other stuff (early poetry books by Willi Beckett etc) that will also be re-published here soon (promise!).
• WW Tributes & Stories
A sincere thank you for all the comments and stories about Wild Willi. Keep them coming in! (email address above for non-MySpace users).
• Bootleg Videos
An example below. More footage in our video section. We plan to issue an extended film (on DVD) in the near future, and this will include a wide selection of archival footage. If you have any Surgeons vids - please get in touch (see above for contact details).
By the way, this is the official band site which is run by ourselves who we have officiously appointed as official website officials. That's how official it is. Everything we could find that is Surgeons-related has been posted here for the sake of keeping it all in one place. The main exception is WW's shoe collection which he bequeathed to Jont (probably to get him back for something or other) and would prove difficult to digitise anyway. But everything else is here. Contributions to this site - other than shoes - are very welcome.
We also recommend the fans’ site where you can meet better looking people and generally have more fun . But while you’re here, laugh at the pictures, enjoy the songs. Oh, and stay in touch!
I have a new short story on my page: ‘Making A Killing’, which could be described as an ‘art thriller.’ It looks at the values that different people place upon different types of art and approaches the subject with equal measures of comedy and suspense. Ultimately it’s something of a riot and a joke with no morals or opinions of its own.
It’s a departure from previous stories that have explored more metaphysical notions – although ‘Buddha’ does have a cameo role.
Please check out our new comedic “vampire bankers” music video. The guy who directed this also directed Madonna’s first music vid. We think it’s pretty funny. It’s available as a free mp3 download on http://www.ukejackson.com
