About me:

I grew up in a small Florida town in a neighborhood of retirees and no children, thereby discovering a confidant in the world of art. After high school, I moved to NYC to be surrounded by an abundance of art and culture. I furthered my artistic training at Parsons School of Design, achieving a BFA in Product Design in 1991. The curriculum in art school was very structured, so as a deviation, I created extracurricular work with lighthearted themes purely for my own enjoyment.
I am mostly recognized for my paintings which are characterized by vivid colors and patterns to make up graphic-like, symmetric and geometric designs. My work is inspired by integrating elements of Ethnic Art, Pop Culture, and Textile Design.
For my work, I first select playful subject matter and draw them onto my piece. I paint in the base colors, then place each dot one at a time with unconventional tools, such as dowels, chopsticks, and bamboo skewers. Then each shape is accentuated with a black outline with a fine paintbrush. Patience, self-discipline, and attention to detail are all crucial to achieve gratifying results. A large piece may take months and hundred hours to complete, yet I find the process meditative and therapeutic.
It is my goal to create artwork that is uplifting and positive. As the process of making art is an outlet for me to escape the seriousness of reality, my main objective is to produce in my audience a cheerful experience by virtue of the happy images in my work.
