IN MEMORY& JUSTICE 4 PATSY TINSLEY BRADLEY 's Interests
General
WLOSers got the scoop Friday night, reporting that former Woodfin police Chief Pete Bradley had been arrested on federal charges. WLOSers had video of Bradley being booked at the Buncombe County Detention Center.
Bradley has been at the center of controversies for several years, and it's quite a twisted tale. Here's the rough version: Bradley grows up in a well-to-do Biltmore Forest family, and ends up working for the North Carolina DMV. He apparently complains about getting passed over for a promotion and cites political corruption, which triggers an investigation.
As the quiet investigation starts, Bradley gets named Woodfin police chief. But somebody leaks a part of the State Bureau of Investigation's report on the DMV scandal -- the part of the SBI uncovering the fact that Bradley liked to spend time in Atlanta hanging out with men who like to get together and wear diapers.
That revelation spurs the Woodfin town board to dismiss Bradley. Bradley sues the town, claiming he was unjustly fired, and wins. Word on the street at the time was that Bradley won $1 million from the town.
In September 2005, Bradley's wife turns up dead at the Bradleys' Biltmore Forest home, the victim of an apparent suicide, according to a medical examiner's report. But rumors swirl that Bradley actually killed his wife.
Bradley is later charged with assaulting his wife before her suicide and he goes to court, where he's found guilty in District Court, appeals and is found guilty again in Superior Court in 2007. He spends 30 days in jail.
Now we have Bradley arrested on federal charges, but nobody this weekend knows what those charges are. Bradley all along has insisted that somebody's out to get him.
There's so much more to this story that's never come to light. Will it ever?

ASHEVILLE – Former Woodfin police chief John Peter Bradley, 49, was indicted by a federal grand
jury in Asheville on one count alleging a violation of the federal firearms laws.
According to the indictment, on April 2, 2008, in Buncombe County, having been
convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, Bradley possessed a Sig Sauer, model P220, .45 caliber pistol, in violation of federal law.
If convicted, Bradley faces a maximum statutory penalty of ten years’ imprisonment.
Bradley was convicted in March 2007 of assaulting his wife in their Biltmore Forest home, about a month before Patsy Bradley died of what officials deemed suicide.
In the assault case against Bradley, prosecutors said at his trial that he struck his wife in the head during the early morning hours of Aug. 31, 2005, leaving a lump the size of a golf ball.
Officers said they found Patsy Bradley scared and crying in her car at a neighbor's house.
Bradley was sentenced in Buncombe County Superior Court to 30 days in jail after a jury found him guilty.
Patsy Bradley was found dead in her home about a month after the assault. The State Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation, and an autopsy report released later by the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner called her death a suicide prompted by depression and a troubled marriage.
A prosecutor told jurors at Bradley's assault trial that Bradley told officers investigating the death, "I guess she won't be testifying against me." Bradley testified he didn't strike his wife

Pete Bradley is a visious man, in my opinion, who abused his wife for years then murdered her and GOT BY WITH IT. Patsy's family has suffered FOR YEARS at his hands. They are still suffering-at the loss of Patsy-because of him. Sometimes you get yourself into a deadly situation, as Patsy did, and no matter what you do---you and yourfamiy lose. Former Woodfin police chief arrested on federal firearms charge
by Jason Sandford on 09/02/2008 the mountain xpress
Pete Bradley, the former Woodfin police chief convicted of assaulting his wife in 2005, had his first appearance before a federal magistrate Tuesday morning on charges that, as a convicted felon, he illegally possessed a firearm.
Bradley was found in possession of a .45-caliber Sig Sauer handgun, according to court records. Bradley was arrested Friday on the charge and was held in the Buncombe County jail over the weekend. According to the court documents, the federal indictment on the charge was sealed by U.S. Magistrate Dennis Howell on Aug. 5. An arrest warrant issued Aug. 6 was also sealed by the court. The court opened the documents following Bradley’s court appearance.
Bradley was convicted on the domestic violence charge in March 2007, more than a year after his wife, Patsy Bradley, was found dead at the couple’s Biltmore Forest home in September 2005. Patsy Bradley’s death was ruled a suicide, according to a medical examiner’s report.
The Woodfin town board fired Bradley in 2002 following media reports detailing his sex life. Bradley sued the town, maintaining that the information leak about his personal life and his firing were retaliation for his blowing the whistle on corruption within the state Division of Motor Vehicles, where he worked before being hired as Woodfin’s top law-enforcement officer. Bradley made his allegations to the State Bureau of Investigation, which prompted an investigation that eventually covered 13 Western North Carolina counties and led to a federal grand-jury probe. During the investigation, Gov. Mike Easley merged the DMV with the State Highway Patrol.
Bradley won his case against Woodfin in April 2005 and showed up at a town board meeting with a briefcase and a boom box. He asked Mayor Jerry VeHaun for permission to play a song “that speaks to the freedom of speech.” The song — Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” — filled the room

About me:
*Pete Bradley indicted on federal gun charges 4-08-2009!*
"Bradley was convicted of assault on a female, a North Carolina crime “that does not contain as an element that there be a domestic relationship, although that fact is present in the underlying case,” the department said in its motion to dismiss.
But in striking down the Appeals Court ruling in a case from West Virginia, the Supreme Court said state laws don't have to specifically mention domestic violence to fall under the gun ban.
It is enough, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote in her majority opinion, that the victim of such a crime be involved in a domestic relationship with the attacker.
“If the case had gone the other way, there are thousands of people who currently are prohibited from buying guns who would have been allowed to buy guns,” said Paul Heimke, president of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. “Women in abusive relationships would have been more at risk. Police officers responding to domestic violence calls would have been more at risk.”
The federal law is an important means of protecting victims of domestic violence and their children, said Valerie Collins, executive director of Helpmate, an Asheville agency providing crisis-level support for victims of domestic violence.
“The use of weapons or even the threat of the use of weapons in the home is often utilized by perpetrators of domestic violence,” Collins said. “The presence of a gun in any of these homes puts victims and their children at risk.”
U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., author of the 1996 law, applauded the court ruling. He said the law had kept more than 150,000 guns out of the hands of domestic abusers.
In the assault case against Bradley, prosecutors said at his trial that he struck his wife in the head during the early morning hours of Aug. 31, 2005, leaving a lump the size of a golf ball.

A Sealed Murder Indictment Is Said to Be In the Works Against Former Woodfin Police Chief Pete Bradley In The Recent “Suicide” of His Wife.
Several reliable sources—insiders—have told The Independent Torch that a sealed first degree murder indictment is in the works against former Woodfin Police Chief Pete Bradley in the death of his wife at their Biltmore Forest home several months ago. Her death was first declared a suicide.
For legal reasons the indictment has been kept sealed by the DA’s office and is not yet an official indictment, but is set to be brought forward any day. The delay is said to be because further evidence has been developing. The Torch will carry a fuller story soon as this case develops.
The quiet investigation has been carried on by the State Bureau of Investigation. Some of the evidence found since the alleged suicide includes purported gunpowder residue found on Bradley’s person.
Law enforcement sources said that Bradley and a male companion were detained recently in a gay nightclub in South Carolina for impersonating a Buncombe County narcotics officer.
At the X-ray screening device at the Buncombe County Courthouse a mug shot of Bradley is taped on the back side to be seen by security deputies, who have been alerted that Bradley may enter that entrance. He is suspected of having made threats against certain personnel and of being armed and dangerous

Former Chief Charged
Woodfin's Former Police Chief faces a federal firearms charge, but his deceased wife's family says that's not enough. Pete Bradley was indicted for illegally having a pistol.
Because of an appeals court ruling, he can't have the gun because he was convicted of assaulting his wife, Patsy. The assault occurred a month before Patsy was found shot to death in the couple's home.
The coroner ruled it a suicide, but Patsy's family is convinced Bradley had something to do with it. They say seeing him in jail now is at least some justice for them.
