The release of "A Terrible Man" is now being celebrated by Height radio: Exclusive Interview, Insider Info, and sneaky preview tracks! Check the podcast out HERE
A result of many long nights fueled by dark roast and cheap food, "A Terrible Man" was approved on Dec 2nd by an executive NO HERO board member who took the cigar out of his mouth just long enough to tell me it was suitable for release to the public. This record is a true accomplishment for me, because everything from picking the records and samples used (the sounds on this album are 100% vinyl samples), to the mixing and mastering of the final product were all done by yours truly. All of this, with a few small exceptions (most notably the mixing for "The Lights"), was done on an MPC 1000.
The MPC's role in my music is much akin to what a guitar is for a singer/songwriter. A vital piece of the creative process, not only used by the artist, but also possessing features as well as limitations that are instrumental in shaping how the artist makes sound.
"A Terrible Man" is, technically, a Rap record. Made using vinyl samples rather than live instrumentation, it nonetheless reflects more of a Punk ethos in the way it was created. Raw sound and structure is the focus, rather than clean production values. I find this appropriate, because I have always seen the similarities between Punk and Rap, both are relatively new forms of music, driven by youth, energy and rebellion. I feel that both come from a similar root, though they manifest themselves musically, and culturally, very differently. Partly, this record is an effort to bridge that gap in my own unorthodox way.
I'll go ahead and let the music speak for itself here, you can listen to a few choice tracks up top (likely one is already playing). If you like what you hear, you can purchase a digital copy from me or you can get a Limited Edition Official Bootleg CD if you require a physical manifestation.
ONLY 8 of these bootleg CD's remain, so if you want one, order now. Once the official CD is released they will be discontinued.
