Hello Pulaski Tech students. My name is Matthew Rougely and I am running for Student Government President. I would like to let you know a little bit about myself and what I plan to do as President. First of all, I come from a tight-knit military family. I work part-time as a clerk in the records department of the Supreme Court of Arkansas.
I work very hard in school. I am currently holding a 3.92 grade point average. I am also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. I have been pursuing my degree since January of 2007. I am majoring in paralegal technology. After completing this degree, I will continue attending Pulaski Tech to get my Associate of Arts degree. I love to help students out any way I can. I believe as President I can have an even greater effect on student life.
I have several ideas that I hope will resonate among you. One idea that I am most passionate about is, establishing an on-campus child care center. I think a lot of students would benefit from the child care center because they would not have to miss class because they couldn't find a babysitter. It would also give students peace of mind. They could fully focus on their work, because they know their children are right there on campus.
I would also like to organize students in support of a recent initiative to provide students with health insurance and an on-campus clinic. This program could use some help getting pushed through. I would like to get a petition started with the goal of a thousand student signatures. Keep in mind, there is strength in numbers. If all goes well, I would then like to organize a rally for this very worthy cause.
I have had a lot of fun so far as a Student Government Senator. The conference in Beebe was great and the fall carnivals at the Little Rock site and the main campus gave me a chance to interact and have fun with many students. And the restaurant take-over at Cotija's was awesome. I feel like I am becoming an important sprocket in the finely tuned Pulaski Tech machine.
