Pulferd's Interests
|
| General |
What you're seeing above is my most recent drawings and markerings. I'm definitey not pro-material, I may be some day, but I do this for fun and to keep my mind busy. It's not ever a planned thing; I might get an idea of something I could draw, which is to say I am inspired by other artists, but the act of drawing has been more for me a journey, not a destination. I never really want to finish what I'm working on, but I do realise you can only put so mch on a certain piece of paper. Sometimes I get really fired up about what I'm working on, but I really only get that from people that praise what I've drawn. As you can see, I tend to spend alot of time working in tiny details before finishing something; the details are really what give what I would call a functional piece of art into a really consuming piece of art.
I also have an account strictly for my art; http://purplebuffalo.deviantart.com/ plus I run a critiquing site there, too http://critiqueme.deviantart.com/ to help artists get better. It's the longest running critique site on Deviantart and has been very successful.

One thing I love about FolkFest. I learned it over the years, that it's not about being drunk and being rowdy, and it's not about drugs. For me, it's the chance to get everything out of the way and just hang out with your friends.
Would I go to FolkFest without that feeling? Absolutely- the music has always been an amazing experience too, but so many of the memories I take away from it are memories of being there with people from everywhere who just want to live life and have a good time.
 | | Movies | In no particular order, the best and most influential films of my life as follows:
arguably the source of Arnie's first, best one liners.
Predator= one of the best conceptualizations of a superior species from another planet. What is it about predator that made it what it is? few can say. That's why I was so disappointed with Alien vs. Predator... Can they not have thought up something with a little more intensity? I was worried Barney was going to show up. Sadness.
shout outs. Geiger. Aliens. Got nut'n bu'luuv foe ya
interesting Pulferd side note- unless I'm uh, entertaining, I fall asleep to this movie every night. still haven't seen the end. joking. Gawd.
And lets not forget the essentials. If you haven't seen all these movies, I recommend you to be seeing them, because I have a habit of testing people randomly on these movies... after not taking the medicine...it gets pretty bad. I like it when the red water comes out. joking. Gawd.
'Ere me now...Here are some butes I personally recommend:
And now for some neo-Shakespeare poetic shit I just thought up:
"To woo; to wit,
I don't give a shit."
You know, that reminds me of something Jake Bell composed in the days of comb-poems; Let's relive that moment now;
"Mutha fucka stole my smokes
Mutha fucka stole my beer;
Mutha fucka stole my girl
Mutha fucka gonna get his sack kicked in"
| | Books | Oh you want to know the books? I have read many. Im am smart in all the categories. Interesting Pulferd side-note; I have been in trouble 3 times for reasons involving books; The first time I stole something it was an Archie book in the line at Safeway. My mom caught me and I was thrown in a burlap sack and beaten with reeds. The second time was in Science class, I was caught with a copy of the "Anarchists home companion" which includes some 250 ways to build bombs out of the contents of a well-stocked kitchen. they were under the impression that, it being science class, I was intending on stealing some of the more difficult supply needs- various acids and chemicals. you know. Bomb stuff. Good thing my interest in the subject was pre-columbine. Imagine the shit I'd be in. lolz. Not lolz on Columbinese people; no no. Lolz on getting in shit. pff. school.Skinny legs and all
This is actually my favorite book. I say actually because for the first half I actually hated it.
A Brief History of Time
Read this book. It will teach you a black hole isn't actually a hole. If you knew that already, still read it.
God's Debris
A new perspective on philosophy and religion- sold as an argument or critical analysis- I strongly recommend reading.
The Giving Tree
It's sad, but that's sometimes the way life is.
Where The Sidewalk Ends and A Light In The Attic
What an awesome pair of books- If you haven't read them already, you may be missing essential sections to your brain. Please go and read them so I can bloody relate to you. | | Heroes | Heroes- oh yeah. Heroes are very important. The greater part of my moral code is excerpts from the values of people like Lion-O, Astroboy, The friendly giant, Speedracer, and Muhatma Gandhi. But him not so much. More speedracer. THE THUNDER CATS
Who's cooler than the thundercats? I mean, their friendship philosophy might be seen as weakness by some, but seriously. Any one of them would kick your ass. And if you've gotta have an ethos, what's better than striving for "truth, justice, honor"? Didn't think so. I'd like to have Lion-O in Parliament. I'll tell ya, I wouldn't see potholes if Lion-O was Prime Minister.
PAUL OAKENFOLD
.. width="425" height="350">..>
Paul Oakenfold is super cool.. brought the "Balearic" style of djing from the beaches of ibiza, Spain to the rest of the world. I remember Jon Hill giving me a tape with his name on it, I thought it was crap and broke it. What a fool I was to do such a thing. Now I dont have that album. I bought some of his vinyl back from San Francisco, but it was destroyed when my girlfriend- ex-girlfriend- let it rol out of the case and onto the floor. I had it half a day. |

Who I'd like to meet:
ROBERT VENOSA
"Bravo Venosa! Dali is pleased to see spiritual madness painted with such a fine technique."
--Salvador Dali
LUIS ROYO
“the subject is a magnet which draws me into the canvas until I am able to capture the light, the hues and the spirit of the moment, only then I am released”
ERNST FUCHS
The famous representative of the Viennese school of Phantastic Realism has been nicknamed by his admirers "The Painter-Prince," on the account of his unmistakable paintings, aquarels, pastels, etchings, as well as masterful graphics.
KEN KELLY
H.R. GEIGER
Take whatever courses you find the most interesting.
Study closely the work of the Old Masters.
Stop making art that originates only from your own imagination.
Stay with one technique until you perfect it.
On any given day, always be in the middle of reading a book. When you finish one, start the next. Fiction, nonfiction, biographies, autobiographies, history, science, psychology, or how to build a kite. Anything but go easy on the comic books.
Buy and read the first 6 pages of newspaper every day and also the editorial commentaries. Skip the entertainment section. Su Doku is fine. Do the crossword puzzle.
Fill up a sketchbook every month with pen or pencil drawings of the world around you, not from your imagination.
Buy a book on figure drawing. It's the only art book you will ever need.
Until you can draw an accurate portrait of someone, you don’t know how to draw.
Stay away from the airbrush. You'll never master it, hardly anyone ever has.
Visit every museum in your city. Often, until you have seen everything in it. Every kind of museum. Not only the art museums but, of course, those as well.
Forget about contemporary art by living artists, at least for the next few years.
Stay away from most art galleries. Go to art auctions. That's where the real action is.
Learn to play chess.
Take a business course.
Talk to you mother or father at least once a week.
Stop going to the movies until you have rented and seen every film on this list.
http://www.time.com/time/2005/100movies/the_complete_list.html
Do not watch television unless it’s the news or documentaries.
Do not use an Ipod.
No video games, either.
Learn a foreign language.
Learn to cook.
Spend 8 hours in a hospital emergency room.
Save up money so you can travel to a foreign country within the next five years.
Do not litter.
Avoid politically correct people.
Vote in every election or never dare to utter a political opinion. You are not entitled to one.
Buy a digital camera and take photos every day.
If you see nothing interesting to photograph, you will never be a good artist. Keep only one photo of every ten you take. Delete the rest. It will force you to learn how to edit the garbage from your life, to make choices, to recognize what has real value and what is superficial.
Visit an old age home.
Listen to classical music and jazz. If you are unable to appreciate it at least as much as contemporary music, you lack the sensitivity to develop into an artist of any real depth.
Go to the ballet. Classical or Modern, it doesn't matter. It will teach you to appreciate physical grace and the relationship between sound and movement.
Wake up every morning no later than 8 AM, regardless of what time you went to sleep.
Learn to play a musical instrument.
Learn to swim.
Keep your word.
Never explain your art. People who ask you to do so are idiots.
Never explain yourself. Better yet, never do anything that will, later, require you to explain yourself or to say you're sorry.
Always use spell check.
Stop aspiring and start doing.
This will keep you very busy but it can't be helped.
In my opinion, this is how you might, possibly, have a shot at becoming a good artist.
