Bio:

My name is Ben Dempster; I go under the alias of Punjab for musical purposes. The name didn't come from any destiny filled journey to the sub-contintent. No, I was such a good little worker in household affairs in my earlier years I earned the disrespectful title of little Punjab boy. Anyways, I have been making music intermittently for the last 7 years. I've done a few movie scores for a film buff friend, even earned me-self a Best Score for 2000 "Mothra" Film Awards. You would not believe how excited I got about that one. No doubt because I was completely pissed. What probably originally got me into all this music stuff, apart from just, as many do, loving all kinds of music, was 3 1/2 years as an on-air announcer for a Drive show, and also a few months co-hosting the hectic Radio One Breakfast Show(Dunedin's student radio, not that of english fame). It's second time around for me in Melbourne, arriving in Melbourne originally in 2000, eager to taster the fruits of this town legendary for it's live music. Before that, I was at Uni in Dunedin, NZ, where I did a lot of DJing - French, Belgian and Dutch House mostly, easy on the cheese. I did a stint in the UK (drinking, not DJing) and took an extended break from beats from about 2003 - 2005. It pained my soul and now I am back with a passion. I pretend what I have in my flat is a home studio - computer, Yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and my pride and joy, a tops Shure microphone. The tunes I make are oriented towards the dancefloor; a mix of house and techno, minimal yet energised, filled with hard beats and irreverent samples. Since trying to learn git box (guitar) a few years ago I am trying to bring this into the fray. I am a not for profit musician in the sense that I know I'll never make my living out of it so there's no point being a boner about it.
