PunkRockAlypse's Blurbs |
About me:
I remember waiting at the bus stop in middle school. Kerry Burke was the cool older new wave/ punk chick on the block. I was in the 7th grade when she turned me on to punk music. I will never forget the first time I heard 7 Seconds (a positive force punk band who still plays today!). After begging and pleading with my parents, I went to my first punk show just a short time later. 7Seconds and Circle Jerks at the legendary Metroplex. I was hooked. The feeling I had in that room was indescribable. I found my niche. I was now welcomed into this subculture that caused me to question my existence and make a difference. I became the leader of my own path. The lyrics and belief systems in 'my punk rock' steered me in a direction without boundaries and without stereotypes. I often refer to punk rock as my surrogate parents because as I read each lyric sheet from my favorite bands and every issue of Maximum Rock n Roll ( a punk rock zine/bible), I kept those words close to my heart to guide me through whatever I faced. Music touches people is all sorts of ways, but it was the punk sub-culture that helped make me 'me'. I feel so fortunate to not only play this impactful music on Project 961, but to share this with those of you that share a common bond, as well as those of you who have yet to be exposed to 'my punk rock'. Reminisce, enjoy, embrace, or just sit back and take it in. These are the bands that inspired bands on the radio today, as well as new stuff and regional bands playing shows right outside your living room.
