Volunteer

one of the most important things is simply being someone other punk kids can look up to, and take example from. take people under your wing, once you get going (punk or not).

Dont think change is needed?
The world has problems everywhere. At home, across the ocean, everywhere. 1 billion kids live in poverty, there are 2 billion in the world. Thats a HUGE problem. we cant fix it, but we can help a lot of people out. kids in the US, like a lot of you maybe, a lot of punx, kids across the world. one thing is just spreading the word, a lot of people have no clue. At least DO THAT. It is hard to volunteer overseas, but you can help raise money, be CREATIVE. ------------ also, you can volunteer in your own city, its a lot easier to find volunteer oppurtunities at home, and it is TRULY needed.
PUNX UNITE!
Who I'd like to meet: Things are changing everyday. Young people are stepping up and it IS making a difference. I see a future and a scene which is led simply by those who step up, lets make this really be about something.
an example:
On
June 13 40 people protested War Criminal Robert Gates, Obama’s
Secretary of Defense and the main speaker at the University of
Washington Commencement Ceremony. The protest was initiated by World
Can’t Wait, Seattle, and was endorsed by local anti-war groups.
Participants were mainly from Vets For Peace, World Can't Wait and
ANSWER. A small number of couple of graduates, students, and alumni
also took part.
We had pictures of detainees being tortured,
Iraqis being injured in war and the Yes We Can Torture Poster. We had a
large banner that read “Robert Gates is a War Criminal.” Two graduates
spoke out against Robert Gates and said that the reason why there we
there is because Robert Gates has been responsible for the death of
thousands of people around the world. The said Robert Gates does not
represent them as students. One young woman who was graduating said
that she told her mom she wanted to spend her graduation protesting
Robert Gates instead of going inside to the ceremony. So her mom
supported her and joined in the protest outside.
Our leaflet
exposed the crimes of Robert Gates and why he is a war criminal: his
role in waging an illegal war of aggression in Iraq by sending a surge
of 21,000 troops, which led to the deaths of 24,000 Iraqis - more than
the amount of deaths in 2003 and 2004 combined, when Rumsfeld was in
office. It addressed the war crimes of bombing civilians, from the
drones in Pakistan that according to the UN left one million people
homeless, causing a humanitarian cri
The Attorney General's reluctance to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate potential crimes by former officials involved in torturing detainees is endangering our nation's fundamental values and our credibility as a worldwide human rights leader.
Take a stand today by signing BORDC's letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and the Senate Intelligence Committee demanding accountability for torture. We will be sending a series of letters, including some on behalf of individuals practicing particular professions, reflecting the unique challenges they face.
The letter is signed by legal professionals, education professionals, clergy and religious lay-leaders.
Sign your name today to join a chorus of voices from around the country demanding accountability. Torture is illegal, immoral, and un-American, and officials responsible for it should be held accountable.

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is waging peace around the world.
Last year they invested:
$330,000 in Bosnia for "peace gardens" where poor people grow food, heal
from the traumas of the war and make friends with former enemies.
$835,000 in Indonesia, where they've brought communities together in an area
ravaged by the tsunami and civil war, to lay the foundation for lasting peace.
$300,000 in the Middle East, where they provide prosthetic limbs for Iraqi
refugees, meeting physical needs and repairing shattered lives.
Those
three programs add up to $1.465 million -- just 46 seconds of the U.S.
military budget.
That's why AFSC launched their "Minute for
Peace" campaign. They're determined to raise $1.9 million -- one minute of the
military's budget -- to help fund their work resolving conflicts and building
sustainable, peaceful communities.
American Friends Service Committee is
working to heal the wounds of war and create lasting peace and prosperity.
