Pure Cane Sugar's sultry voices, soulful harmony, and powerful lyrics, evoke exquisite vocals influenced by the likes of Janis Joplin, Patsy Kline, and Stevie Nicks and the more contemporary Lucinda Williams, Sheryl Crow and Norah Jones.
While all three songstresses, Kate Twoey, Molly Countermine and Natalie Berrena, are noted for their alluring individual performances, when they combine as Pure Cane Sugar the result is "an assemblage of masterful melodies and haunting harmonies that inspire sweet dreams".
Their debut CD, Come Back Home, features seven original songs written by Molly Countermine (two of the tracks were co-written with Rene Witzke). Molly on keyboard and Kate on acoustic guitar provide an instrumental core framing the outstanding vocals. The original, artful arrangements are captured on a backdrop of perfectly textured synergy and rhythm, with accompanying guest artists Dan Collins (fiddle), Rene Witzke (bass) Adam "Spydah" Carper (the harper), Noah Figlin (guitar) and longtime collaborator and virtuoso indie rocker, Ted McCloskey on guitar.
