Theres no better name to put on the fresh sound these guys from Durban produce than, Purephonic. Its clean, shimmering hard rock with pure pop melodies, driven by a passion and energy generated by a love of all music. Its music fuelled by a positive attitude and a lack of ego or agenda. Ignore any potential comparisons and imagine sweet sounds created by grinding guitars, pounding drums and slinky bass. The trio started life in early 2004. Each member had been involved in music events with each other in the past. Once they jammed all together, their chemistry quickly became apparent and they started writing songs together quickly. Aiming high, their first five songs blended musical intensity and complexity with accessible melodies and irrepressible hooks. These can be found on their self-titled debut EP, and were re-recorded for their upcoming full-length disc.
They made a high-profile live debut a Burn in Durban while taking part in the Global Battle of the Bands, and from there went on to perform at Splashy Fen 2005 and to gig with established acts such as Prime Circle, the Finkelsteins, Evolver and Spoonfeedas. Audiences were impressed at each show by how catchy the songs were, by the enthusiasm of their performance and the positive vibes the band put out.
Their sound is continuously growing as they strive to write the best, most far-reaching music they can. Gigging around the country is on the cards for the near future, as is a sojourn overseas. Catch this explosive trio soon, and look out for their exciting full-length album.
