In history and political science, to purge is to remove people considered by the group in power to be "undesirable" from a government, political party, a profession, or from community or society as a whole, often by violent means. Restoration of people from a purge is known as rehabilitation.

The band started by an ideia of João back in 1998. In 1999, He wents in a demotape contest. It was called "Prémios Maqueta". An event that was pretty famous at the time. The demo was recorded by him along with a session drummer [Braza] and bass player [Correia]. In April 2000 Purge wins the award of best metal demotape of the year in Portugal with the songs featured in "The orange side of the Moon" demo tape - I'm Your Tool, My Girl and Dark Hole
