Phil Kirk - Vocals
Alec Marlow - Guitar, Backing Vox
Stuart Niblock - Guitar
Ian Bell - Bass, Sequencing.
In addition to this the initial bassist was Daryl Parson (later of the Enchanted), the drummer in the early days was Drax (later of Vaira) and in the last days of the band Jaz played guitar after Alec left.
Influences
Strong (usually cheap) Dry Cider, LSD (usually strong) and a genuine "spirit of independence".
Purity Cries are a Bradford based experimental rock band which was operational between May 1997 and November 2001.
Originally percieved as a musical backdrop for Phil Kirk's self published poetry zine "Inside Moves and Industrial Blues" (1996) the basic idea for PC was first put together by Phil Kirk (voice) and Stuart Niblock (guitar) but nothing really happened until they were joined by Alec Marlow (guitar).
The band were trying to capture some of the darkness and isolation of their northern England roots and turn it into their own unique sound (although some of their musical influences were blatantly obvious). Various members came and went as the band's rehearsals soon became "orgies of Dionysian proportions" and the bands loyal entourage grew. Inevitably this began to take its toll as the revelry and ritual became the focal point of the bands creative output and towards the end of 2001, the band dissolved in a wave of mental health/drink/drug problems, work and personal commitments and probably a bit of apathy thrown in for good measure.
How do you measure success? Definitely not the most prolific or particularly great band amongst the thousands of alternative rock bands that grace the planet earth, they would nevertheless like to think that maybe somebody somewhere would find something to relate to in their brand of "dark rock" and the short time the band existed was a "rite of passage" few people could have endured.
In 2006 Phil made some attempts to assemble a new line-up but unfortunately, nothing came to fruition.
What are they up to at the moment?
Phil Kirk is currently planning a new musical endeavour under the moniker "YIELD", Alec Marlow has been involved with various local projects and is currently in "WILD TRASH" and "REEVED", Ian C. Bell is still officially a member of the currently inactive "BLOODSTREAM" and has recently joined local heavy metal outfit "THE GODS OF HELLFIRE". Stuart "Nibby" Niblock has been away from music and works for a top computer games manufacturer.
The idea of a reunion has been mentioned but as of yet, no concrete plans have been made.

Drax is back in the UK now, maybe we could get together and have a jam? Even if it is just a one-off, it'd be a nice trip down mammory lane!

Thanks for the add dudes!! Daman those were the days eh? I'd give my left bollock to have 1 more night out at all the old places but that aint gonna happen :( I loved SHADES and The 'Sheath
Makes me feel tired just thinking about it. Was great at the time but trying to recreate it even for one night would take months of practice and technical jiggery-pokery. I would rather invest my time into something new. Besides, Purity Cries was never about looking backwards.
Ian, great bassist, miracle worker, not. Great to see ya at "TROUBLE" gig, I took full advantige of Brookside, in a getting a lift home fashion. This has turned gay, see ya later dude!
