About me:

TRAILER

..

NEWARK, DELAWARE Korean American Filmmaker NaRhee Ahn is on a mission to bring the Korean American experience to the silver screen. A Delaware native by way of Seoul, Korea, Ms. Ahn has shot her first feature film in her hometown of Newark as a love letter to the community she was raised in. PURITY is a meditation on what it takes to come of age in the midst of a crisis of faith, losing hope in love then finding forgiveness for yourself and others.

PURITY is about Grace Kim, the 19 year old daughter of a Korean American minister who mourns her mothers death by refusing to leave the house months after the funeral. Her upsetting behavior incites the Youth Minister and her best friend to do everything they can get her out of self-confinement but all their best laid plans end up putting her in the hospital. When her black sheep ex-boyfriend reaches out to her, will she take his hand or save her "purity?"

The talented cast of lead actors on PURITY are Chil Kong, (co-founder, Lodestone Theater Ensemble, guest star, LOST); Susane E. Lee (recurring guest star, THE GILMORE GIRLS); Derek Mio (lead, DAY OF INDEPENDENCE); Jae Suh (guest star, ER) WINNER Richard Kind Award for Best Supporting Actress, Trenton Film Festival and Leonard Wu (guest star, VERONICA MARS); supported by Mi Sun Choi and Sumy Ahn Lee.

PURITY boasts an award winning, all-Asian American soundtrack featuring Filipina American singer/songwriter Alfa; Korean American singer/songwriter Big Phony; Deborah S. Craig, Korean American Broadway star of Tony Award winning THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE; Korean American singer/songwriter Florence Yoo; Asian American rockers The Ides; Korean American cello rocker Ken Oak; Chinese American singer/songwriter Kevin So; South Asian singer/songwriter Shaheen; Japanese American rapper Taiyo; Timothy Ford Murphy, Vietnamesese American vocalist, Vudoo Soul, Vietnamese American R&B singer and Chinese American composer George Shaw join together on an historic all-Asian American soundtrack for the feature film PURITY. So few Asian American feature films have been made and even fewer have featured the work of Asian American musicians that filmmaker NaRhee Ahn felt she had to make a statement about the extraordinary talent that exists right now.

NaRhee Ahn is a Korean American female filmmaker committed to raising the representation of Asian Americans in the media. After graduating from Columbia University Graduate Film Division, her shorts A SON FOR SENSEI and UNDER:ELEGY, which was broadcast on AZN Network, toured the Asian American film festival circuit. Ms. Ahn has spoken on being a woman director of color at Brown, Columbia and New York Universities, The City University of New York, The Asia Society and Museum and on the show Asian America (PBS). She is currently writing part two of THE KIM/LEE/PARK TRILOGY and shooting webisodes and documentaries with friends and collaborators.
