We write to introduce Purple and The Rains to you. We are a three piece band based in Leicestershire who specialise in Classic Rock but are not bound by any limits. If it’s worth playing, we play it.
Check out Myspace.com/purpleandtherains for samples of our own music.
Georgie, the singer and lead guitarist cut his teeth on perfecting Hendrix by practicing 11 hours a day (He wasted his youth) and the band regularly play 3 hour Hendrix gigs to a standard which is simply beyond compare. You never get a “tired performance by professional musicians playing within themselves”. What you get is a full-blooded, live, raw performance on the edge, which never fails to amaze whether you are a seasoned professional musician, a rebel teenager or retired spinster. Even if you don’t like the music, you’ll love the performance.
Georgie plays:-
Feedback
Behind his head
Behind his back
With his teeth
With a broken string
Even with two broken strings he’s finished songs before now.
Quite simply, you can’t take your eyes off him.
Andy, is our new bassist. He’s been dropped from the top diving board into the band and while we have yet to see the best of him (there is a lot more from Andy to come) he is getting established and has already moved the band forward.
Rob is the drummer and contributes massively to the band with his playing. During live performances Georgie lets the adrenaline flow and takes the music where it will. Rob not only goes with him but brings Georgie back to earth and provides the anchor for the band.
And it doesn’t stop there.
If Hendrix is a bit too heavy for you, then we’ll provide a general “pub mix” of classic favourites from the fifties through to the present day which are guaranteed to get you rocking (if you still have a pulse).
Or, we’ll provide an hour of Prince hits.
While the covers provide a steady income to supplement their student loans, the bands real ambitions lie in their own music. Having been selected from thousands of hopefuls to play in the 2006 Amicus Band of Britain competition and played in the semi finals at Nottingham’s Rock City we were invited by The Allstars Collective to play at London’s Southbank Scoop. Steve Walters was one of the judges (Steve is session bassist for The Waterboys and English tour bassist for George Michael and Maria Carey) and to put it simply, he was blown away by Georgie’s guitar playing. Steve described the act as “the best guitar playing I have seen in 10 years” While you might not respect George Michael’s or especially Mariah Carey’s music, as two of the two selling acts of the last twenty years, it’s reasonable to assume that they employ top musicians to perform with them and to receive such an accolade from one of them speaks volumes.
If any band in the world deserves to succeed then its Purple and The Rains, they have too much talent to fail.
Georgie is studying music at College in Leicester while Rob is studying Geology at Leicester Uni, there’s more than one way of being a rock star!

When you sing "Dance With Purple And The Rains" you sound like Jack White (of the White Stripes) which is a huge compliment coming from me. nice stuff guys!
Hey guys, I'm organizing bands for a charity festival called Woodstock in Whitwick. I was wondering if you would be interested. It's quite a big event for a small village and eight bands and other acts will be there. Its in september so we're hoping for the weather to be on our side. As it's a charity event we're looking for bands to play for free, but they will get good publicity, probably including the name in the local paper and a good chance to sell any merchandise. The stage is a lorry trailor so it's quite big. Let me know asap please for more information.
Hey Purple And The Rains i was listening 2 ur music in ur dads car george and i realy liked all of em but i think that my favourite prob was Fruit Veg Salad xx
The Anchor Inn gig was an experience. Were we the only 3 people that came along especially to hear you? We liked the first half best.
Bit disappointed there was no Prince - figured it was guaranteed given the name. Could have happily swapped a slow Come Together or Crosstown Traffic for Let's Go Crazy, Purple Rain, or Guitar.
We loved the lead guitar. I've not heard as good a guitarist play in a pub...ever! Definately a talent.
Felt that the drums and bass needed to spend more time watching each other. Kept better time when you played your own stuff and you turned to watch each other play.
Did a fair job of In The Air Tonight at short notice. The gorilla seemed to enjoy it.
View all of our awesome gig flyers in Blacksmiths Sessions pictures - much better collectables than cigar cards... healthier too. Including this one...
Alright boys, just thought we'd stop by and say hi, still loving the tunes, keep up the good work, will try catch one of your gigs soon if we get the time, busy busy, you know how it is. Cheers lads
