The Purple House has been our home for almost 17 years. And, it has been a place of joy and fun for us, our house-mates, our communities, our friends, our family and those furry critters that let us live with them. It has been a place for wayward animals and sometimes some folks in need. It has been a place for holiday dinners, New Year’s Eve parties, wedding ceremonies and receptions, political events, movie nights, youth group sleep-overs, organizational meetings, porch gatherings, fund-raisers, impromptu dinners, L Word parties, and more.
One of our greatest pleasures is hosting deck and house concerts. Guests get to hear amazing artists of all types, communities can come together and also mingle with other communities in a comfortable, smoke-free environment. Artists can share their talent and make a little bit of money in this over-saturated town. And we get to have free music in our own backyard! Incredible!
Curve Magazine says:
“If you like your music in a more specifically girl-oriented space, check out the best-little-music-venue-you’ve-never-heard-of as the [Purple House] house party series (myspace.com/purplehouseconcerts) cranks up for the summer. Hosts Anne Moorman and Bev Clendenen have built a small amphitheater in their own backyard just to host some of the best women’s music in the country. For a minimal cover [usually $10 or less], not only do you get to hear music from artists such as Edie Carey, Lindsey Hinkle, Wall of Jules and Steff Mahan, but your hosts provide snacks as well. Another BYOB event, this is one of the hottest tickets for an evening of of laughs and music with the girls. And, you can’t beat the down-home welcome."
