Pushin'On is Singapore's longest running, independently promoted funk party. Since 2006, Pushin'On has been bringing quality funk, soul, jazz, disco and hip hop to the dancefloor.
In 2006, DJ Shellsuit, DJ Chunk and MC Masterpiece met in their local record store. Driven by the absence of a funk night in Singapore, they started Pushin'On in a tiny bar on a street lined with karaoke joints. In 2007, Pushin'..ed a monthly residency at Blu Jaz Café, one of Singapore's best spots for live music with a great vibe and friendly crowd.
Beside the regular monthly, the Pushin'On Crew plays at other venues, events, festivals and private shows. In 2008, Pushin'On ventured overseas for a series of gigs in Bali, Spain and Holland. An Asian tour is also in the works.
Pushin'On plays funk, soul, jazz, disco and hip-hop from the 60's, 70’s all the way to the present. A typical Pushin'On night is cosy and friendly, and attracts a mixed crowd of dancers, DJs, music heads and people who just love to party. DJ Shellsuit and DJ Chunk lay down the cuts and MC Masterpiece hosts the party with injections of vocals and percussion. Some of Singapore's best DJs such as KoFlow, Rough and Ritz feature regularly at the night and surprise guests are common – MCs, bands, beatboxers and instrumentalists have made appearances.
The Lion City Orchestra is the latest addition to the Pushin'On line up. Fronted by MC Masterpiece, the LCO play a fierce funk and soul set comprising of covers and their own original tracks.
