The madness of the summer festival season is over for another year. Although we are sad (weeping into fluffy paws)we are also happy to get the mud off our tail and enjoy a good saucer of cream.
Here's a round up of the festivities, our own Spiegel-centred review of events.
Glastonbury Festival 2008
27 – 29 June, near Glastonbury, Somerset
At the No. 1 festival PP is a fully fledged stage. This year we hosted the Yard Dogs Roadshow from New York, Cabaret Interstellar, Martina Topley Bird, Belleruche, Pnau, Loungeclash, Jalapeno Soundsystem, Soul Train DJs, Atomic Hooligan, Rennie Pilgrem, Slyde, Voodoo Trombone Quartet, Nick Hollywood and many other talented performers. We served up sexy juices and generally had a ball. The Dance Village saw its finest hour with additional funky venues and late night action. Many said it was the best Glastonbury in years, and it's hard to disagree.

Glade Festival 2008
18 – 20 July, Alsermaston,Berkshire
The UK’s premier electronic festival, despite being down on numbers, was an absolute joy. Lots of down to earth, fun people, silly outfits, and general late night tomfoolery meant we had a cheshire cat sized smile on our faces all weekend.
All our favourite resident DJs played, such as the legendary We Don’t Play crew, People’s Republic of Disco, General’s Hi-fi, Lazy Sunday Dj, Baby Malc, Jessica Joy and Jacob, plus newcomers Eclectic Ballroom and special guests live band Dr Meaker absolutely whipped it up. There were even more amazing circus skills on display from Cabaret Interstellar in their dazzling show. All this, and NO MUD! Hurrah!

Beautiful Days
15 – 17 Aug, Ottery St Mary, Devon
Ah, if only this delightful bijou festival could live up to its name, weather-wise. Friday was delightful larks, but on Saturday the heavens opened, and the Pussy Parlure turned into a refugee camp, with families sitting on the floor, socks drying in the booths, and everyone huddled together trying to keep their spirits up. Eee it were just like the war - happy days! Saturday afternoon provided splendid entertainment with Cabaret Interstellar, and the brilliantly insane banjo duo Bobby McGees, follwed by an anarchic hoedown from Cut a Shine. Yee-hah! We Don't Play wrapped things up in usual rip roaring style with a rammed dancefloor and party classics. Sunday saw the downpours turn to showers, and normal service resumed, with daft disco dancing and crazy circus. Many smiles on faces, partly down to our Ooh La La Cafe, which kept everyone coming back for our delicious homemade stews all weekend, and our tequila superheros.

Electric Picnic
29 – 31 August, Stradbally, Portloaise, Ireland
What a away to end the season, at the wondrous world that is Electric Picnic. Our friends from the Emerald Isle like a drink or two, and ensured the bar was heaving at all times! Friday night saw lovable nutters The Village Disco take over proceedings, with dance competitions and interactive nonsense spliced with dodgy hits and wedding disco anthems. Saturday saw the introduction of Parlure Games, where contestants did musical statues, limbo, 3-legged dancing and silent karaoke, winning some wonderfully crap prizes. Some local DJs joined the fray, Babalonia and Mark Kelly from Dublin take a bow for your splendid tunes. We Don't Play, Andres, Jessica Joy and Baby Malc also rocked the house, with a special mention for the Bees Knees who came to DJ vintage tunes in the fabbest outfits, and the bar staff whose penchant for wearing fake mustaches has been fully confirmed. Relentless, anarchic and outrageous, oh we do love Electric Picnic.

COMING UP...
Will we see a snow-covered Spiegel? Will we nestle amongst the dreaming spires? Watch this space...
Brighton Fringe Festival
May 2009 we will be returning to the Brighton Fringe Festival, taking up residence in the heart of Brighton with the Spiegeltent, cafe, saloon bar and lovely beer garden. Expect a full programme of all kinds of shows – music and DJs (of course), amazing cabaret, kids shows, dance and comedy.
Keep one of your May weekends free and join us for a festival in the heart of the city. If you have always fancied going to Edinburgh but it seems a bit far, Brighton Fringe really is worth checking out, and you get to visit the seaside as well (please picture our lovely bar boys and girls paddling in the waves with knobbly knees out or lounging in deckchairs with knotted hankies on heads).
