The Puzzle For Peace project is preparing the first of its creative puzzle events/festivals ,which will last 10 days in Milan's Vigorelli Velodrome stadium from the 19 to 29th of June.
The concept of this festival is dedicated to creativity, art, music, theatre and crafts as well as the creation of the biggest puzzle of the world, a Guinness World record: more than 5.500 square meters of 22.000 puzzle pieces.
Of course the creation of a world record is a magnificent experience but the true particularity of this project is the fact that all the puzzle components are made from various 100% recycled and recyclable materials. Ranging from the most common like plastic, wood, cardboard and aluminium, stretching to the farthest limb of the re-cycling realm, to tires and fiberglass.
The gigantic and playful message calls for the environmental attention and underlines the potential of the recycled materials as well as the separate collection of the garbage.
In April 2007 was launched the project's campaign "I am a puzzle maker", which recruited 10.000 people within 40 different events all over Italy to participate, paint, write or perform, giving the life and additional dimension to the Great Puzzle. Transforming it into another world record, the largest multi participated contemporary art piece ever done.
Until today the participants in this project have included students( NABA, IED, the elementary schools ), non -profit associations, groups of artists as well as individual artists from theatres, music and the art scene. This in addition to people who want to use the opportunity to become the part of this great event and express all together their support for the creativity and their environmental respect.
The pieces designed form different artists will be sold in an auction in order to create 4 lines of credit: environmental and social sustainability, cultural integration, international cooperation and funds for artists.
The project is growing also internationally, bringing the puzzle events with its creativity, content as well as visbility of all the participants into many different countries. Collaborating and connecting the world through its message, which will give the life to the international version of the Biggest puzzle of the World at EXPO 2015 in Italy.
The project receives the patronage from the Region of the Lombardy, the Province of Milan and the Municipality of Milan. The puzzle pieces that will compose the puzzle were shown on the international Expos in New York 07, Porto 07, Milan 07, Paris 07 and will be exhibited in the next exposition of Remade 08. The project was hosted on the Festival of Creativity 07, the Biennale of Modern and Contemporary Art in Piemonte 2007/2008, Artissima 2007 and it was chosen among the projects of Torino World Design capital 2008.
The project Puzzle for Peace has, thanks to its complex modality and innovative character, lots of media visibility and public consent. This makes it capable of reaching a really large target audience, from the creatives and artists all the way to the students and their families.
