Influences
Lots of influences, but these are close friends of mine who inspired me: Chris McCarty, Greg Riddle, Gabe Fleet, Julius Tobin, Phil McCarty (The Chris McCarty Band), Nick Jones and Jay Norris (Acoustic Loop/Novella), Nick Wilson, and Stan Steele. As well as musicians, I've had the priviledge of meeting: Joshua Radin, John Mayer, Jason Kanakis, Priscilla Ahn, Schuyler Fisk, Mat Kearney, Cary Brothers, Michael Tolcher, Garrett Dutton (G-Love), Augustana, Heather Donaldson and Sara Haze.
Phil Villeza’s mellow, romantic songs will have you swooning and reminiscing about past and present loves. His laid back guitar sounds coupled with a soothing voice will throw you in a trance, so peaceful and so reflective, you will instantly feel a connection to Phil and his message of love.
Growing up in South Jersey, Phil has lived throughout the United States, from Nevada where he went to high school to Boston where he attended college. It was his college roommate that introduced Phil to the instrument that would forever change his life – the guitar. Learning just a few chords at first, Phil taught himself the guitar with a fervor rarely seen. Transferring to the University of Florida, Phil began performing his music live at open mic nights and at bars and clubs throughout the area. After graduating in 2002, Phil joined the Air Force, relocating him to Sumter, South Carolina. Here, Phil joined his first band Novella in which he learned to play the bongos. The band garnered some success, winning an open mic competition in Columbia, SC and as a result were asked to play live on a local radio station. Work obligations led to the band breaking up allowing Phil to pursue a solo career in which he gigged throughout the country in Georgia, Texas, Arkansas and New Mexico. In April 2005, Phil moved to Tucson, Arizona where he currently resides. He has performed at local venues, garnering attention for his smooth and comforting tunes.
Phil has put together three tours in which he traveled throughout the country, gigging and sharing his music with a wide range of listeners. When asked what sets his music apart, Phil says his quick-witted humor and onstage banter establishes a great connection with his audience. His music is relatable and exposes human nature as much of the world experiences it.
