    .. .. .. .. .. .... Pygmaeus is an avant garde rock band that formed in the Summer of 2008. The band is currently composed of James “Cameron” Taylor (vocals/guitar) Edward “Eddyrocks” Todd Welsh (bass/backing vocals/whistle blower) and Sarek Alexander Gutierrez (percussion). Their sound is best described as a collection of rock n’ roll, jazz, progressive rock, blues, country, and funk, all of which encompass Pygmaeus’ distinct style. Pygmaeus started in the Summer of 2008 with Taylor and a friend named Alex McBride (percussion). Within a matter of weeks, the two joined with Welsh, who came to fill in the sound. Towards the end of the Summer they played their first show at The Ten Eleven (formerly The Warhol). .. .. After their first show, Pygmaeus began routinely performing in local venues. In the Fall of 2008 friend and roommate Marcus Shoults (saxophone/trumpet) joined the band, after which Pygmaeus continued to play more shows with various props ranging from bagels, cream cheese, and muffins to boxing gloves and robes. During shows they can be seen wearing costumes and keeping a constant movement on stage; there is never a dull moment when seeing Pygmaeus live. These interactive shows eventually drew the attention of reporter Jeremy Martin from the San Antonio Current. After the story was published in Spring 2009, the rest of the year proved to be a very fruitful year for Pygmaeus. It started with the band winning UTSA's Battle of the Bands... .. Around the same time the band recorded its first album I Am Not a Monkey in Dead Room Studios with engineer Clifton Flagen, and was released in the Summer of 2009. In August, Shoults left the band to pursue other interests, and in early October, Gutierrez replaced Mcbride on the drums and percussion. No matter the obstacle, Pygmaeus is a band that can’t wait to put on more shows and write new songs. The future is bright for Pygmaeus as the band continues to move forward in its musical endeavors.
