QCF OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES TO JOURNALISM INTERNS
Cincinnati journalism program QueenCityForum.com magazine (QCFMag.com) has undertaken a focus on two new programs that would further its mission of offering training and experience under the tenets of classical journalism, producing responsible journalists of tomorrow.
Each month, QCFMag.com will be hosting a question and answer session with a journalism professional at their headquarters in downtown Cincinnati. The 4 month old program will next host Cincinnati Enquirer Associate Editorial Page Editor Byron McCauley. It will be free and open to all who are interested in learning from professional journalists.
To date the “Pro-Program” has been offered to the existing staff only. Professional reporters Joe Wessels (Post, regional director Society Professional Journalists), Stephanie Dunlap (CityBeat), and columnist Peter Bronson (Enquirer) have shared an hour at 15 E. 8th Street, during which reporters, editors and graphic designers for the non-profit’s publication have taken the opportunity to find out their respective experience in handling stories, research, interviews and the business of journalism. QCFMag.com is now extending the opportunity to local colleges UC, XU, NKU, and MSJ.
In conjunction with an internship that already existing internships with the University of Cincinnati’s journalism program, QCFMag.com will be extending to more Cincinnati-area colleges the opportunity to research, report, and write about city issues with the opportunity for college credit. The internship opportunities which include the City Hall Beat and several other assignments, have already been successful at training UC students.
“I learned what it was like to have a real beat,” said Jennifer Greenup who was assigned the weekly city hall reporting. She continued “You can never be sure what is going to happen while covering it,” referring to the dynamic of City Council and the murder that occurred outside city hall during her tenure.
The young, stylish publication that has touted itself as “always in it and always on it” since its inception, as the first completely volunteer online news magazine in Cincinnati in 2003, has built and maintained a reputation of respect in the Queen City.
