Upcoming Lit Cafe:

Hi, Everyone!

On Saturday, June 14th we will be hosting this year's final NYPL Children's and Young Adult Literature Cafe!

Details:
Saturday, June 14 at 2 PM
Humanities and Social Sciences Library
(Fifth Ave and 42nd St)
Berger Forum

Please join us as we welcome An Na, Janet Wong, Joyce Lee Wong, and David Yoo for a program entitled Fusion Stories .

Fusion Stories will give us a chance to examine novels with Asian-American protagonists/characters in contemporary YA and middle-grade settings who explore mainstream or universal themes.

The four participating authors will be discussing and reading from their latest novels:

An Na, THE FOLD
Janet Wong, MINN AND JAKE'S ALMOST TERRIBLE SUMMER
Joyce Lee Wong, SEEING EMILY
David Yoo, STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE

(Attached are two pages containing author bios and book descriptions.)

The titles will also be available for sale, and the authors will be signing!

As usual, refreshments will be served, and ARCs given away! You can find the Berger Forum by taking the elevators -- on the north side of the building -- to the second floor. The doors to the Berger Forum are pretty much the first thing you see outside of the elevators! It's room number 227.

A poem provided in observance of National Poetry Month.

Crystal Clear Blue Skies

Towers weep on peaceful shores.
Crystal clear blue skies.
Across the water, we answered the call,
Never questioning why.

Race over the berm and down the road,
Rebuilding ancient Babylon.
Smiles, waves, and shouts of joy.
Gratuities of hidden fire and roadside bombs.

Blistering sun and mouths full of sand,
White salt stains chalk the skin.
Handshake through a turret gun sight,
Peace attempted to win.

Pain, anxiety, disillusionment,
Seek comfort in each other.
Go back again, one more time,
Only for my sister or brother.

Anyone interested in going to the YALSA Gaming Extravaganza on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 8 to 10 pm in Philadelphia at ALA's Midwinter meeting. It is $40.00 and you do not have to register for Midwinter to attend Gaming Extravaganza.

Here is the description: Check out the latest and greatest in tabletop and video games, learn more about machinima, and vote for the winner of YALSA's Create Your Own Avatar Contest, plus we'll have snacks! The Gaming Extravaganza is the official kickoff event for Teen Tech Week (thanks to our 2008 TTW Corporate Sponsor, Dungeons and Dragons!).

I'm interested in going to that one event. Anyone else?

Hi QCLSSA
Thanks for the add.
You say you want to meet librarians, geniuses and madmen. I have this rare line on both my palms which is apparently the sign of a madman, a genius or an idiot. The first two are out, and I'm not a librarian. How do you feel about idiots?
Cheers
