QED Band Members:-
Andy Start: Lead male vocals. Andy has been playing in bands around the Cambridge area since the early 80’s. Colin Start's younger brother
Karen Start: Lead female vocals. Aretha Franklyn-style voice blending rock and soul.
Phil Howard: Keyboards, bass and rhythm guitars. Bass player at heart and has played in bands in the Wigan area since the late 70's. Now converted to keyboards mainly.
Matt Start: Drums, Son of Karen and Colin and set to make a career in the music industry.
Richard Batson: Rhythm guitar. Commutes to each gig from North Norfolk!
Peter Clayden: QED's brilliant new lead guitarist who knows the band well through the Blues Brothers.

One of the most famous and established dance bands in the Cambridge area. Voted one of the top 3 local bands in 2005 during a local radio station phone poll. Classic pop and dance music is the key to QED’s success stretching back for more than 15 years. Our blend of soul, disco and rock has made us one of the most popular groups around, particularly in the Cambridge area. QED are a seven-piece outfit and are equally at home playing to large crowds in a big marquee or at smaller community social and fund-raising events - and they do a lot of it for fun.
Karen and Colin Start are husband and wife with their son Matt on drums. Lead singer Andy Start is Colin's younger brother. With 15 years experience behind them, they know what partygoers like - and their set reflects a mixture of dance music from the 1960s to current day, and suitable for all ages and occasions.
History.
The band was born on April 1st 1989 at a charity dance at Palgrave Village Hall in Suffolk, when founders Colin Start and Richard Batson were members of the Round Table organisation.
Richard & Colin gathered together friends and family to do a one-off live spot at a Sixties Night.
Since then a trickle of follow up gigs has evolved into a steady demand for QED’s entertainment (which still includes many charity events)
QED have now performed hundreds of gigs - mostly in East Anglia, but also as far afield as Hampshire, and London.
Sound mixing is performed by Bob Wick. Martin Johnston the lighting engineer also plays harmonica on a few songs during the evening. Lighting effects have advanced dramatically over the past few years since the arrival of Dmx and a dedicated Pulsar lighting control desk. This advancement in lighting capability occured soon after much investment in a new sound desk.
QED also form the very heart of the Blues Brothers tribute band that is a regular at Saffron Walden carnival. The 6 Blues Brothers members who are also part of QED are:- Peter Claydon, Colin Start, Phil Howard, Karen Start, Andy Start and Richard Batson

There is currently a search for two types of bands for record label consideration.
*** Note: PLEASE IDENTIFY IF YOU ARE IN GROUP 1 OR 2 IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR RESPONSE. Emails are being reviewed by different representatives.
1. A Pop/Rock/Commercial band with female lead. Band must consist of 2 guitars (Prefer both guitar players to be of lead caliber. However, one lead and one rhythm is acceptable), keyboard/piano, bass, and drums. Lead vocal, followed by backing vocals, in that order, is a plus as it relates to other members of the group. Average age of the band cannot exceed 28 years of age.
* Group must have an outstanding lead vocalist. ** Musicianship throughout the entire band must be very strong. *** Group cannot currently be under any contract of any type that is related to the music industry.
2. A Modern Rock band with male lead. Must be a complete band but there are no prerequisites as it relates to the make up of the band. Average age of the band cannot exceed 23 years of age.
* Group must have an outstanding lead vocalist. ** Musicianship throughout the entire band must be very strong. *** Group cannot currently be under any contract of any type that is related to the music industry.
