J's Indie/Rock Mayhem's Blurbs |
About me:
9 years as a WQFS DJ will teach you a lot. And certainly I have learned a ton. From the early days of the show in the fall of 1999 (when my friend Jeremy Fischer was my partner in crime and it was J and J's Indie/Punk Mayhem) to the new and ever evolving format of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem (as it has been known since the fall of 2000), lessons, history and a lot of great music have been absorbed. Needless to say I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
The show's name is part tongue-in-cheek and part sincerity. Kidding-on-the-square if there ever was such a thing. Notice the forward slash between the two words 'indie' and 'rock' as opposed to the usual hyphen. Why the separation? Because there are two things important to the content of my show: 1) the music shows a thoughtful, independent mindset and 2) it rocks and/or qualifies as rock. Lots of things can be lumped into the omnipresent mantle of 'rock.' Traditional rock and roll, hip-hop, country, folk, jazz, electronic and so on. I set out to highlight as much excellent music as possible while still giving the show a cohesive feel. You will probably not like everything you hear each week, but that's okay.
WQFS is a community oriented station, which to me means that I am most interested in hearing from you, the listeners, and having an ongoing conversation with you about why music matters, what makes it good and why our lives are enriched by it. That's what I set out to do each week. Now, onward...
