| About QUAD |
|
Set in 1964 London and Brighton Beach, England, a
time of post-war prosperity, and conscious challenging
of the establishment and moral values, two rival
youth groups formed - The Mods and the Rockers.
The Mods emulated everything hip, wore the latest
fashions, drove dressed up scooters, and listened to
modern jazz, R&B, Blues and Soul. The Rockers
carried a masculine bad boy image, wore Jeans, boots,
and leather jackets, drove motorcycles and listened to
Rock-n-Roll.
Jimmy, the main character, is a young Mod in the
throes of coming of age who is torn between four
identities: a tough guy, a romantic, a hypocrite, and a
lunatic -- all of which shape his view of reality and
the challenge to fit in with his peers. His constant
struggle with his parents, his girlfriend, and his Mod
group causes Jimmy to question his existence to the
point of suicide. In the end the answer may be as
simple as Love Reigns Over All of Us.
In the 1973 album Quadrophenia, Peter Townshend of
THE WHO blended symphonic rock music with a story
of a confused and misguided youth and succeeded in
creating a masterpiece of drama and sound that is one
for the ages.
