Quazfest was first started in 2001 at the Kestrel Suite in Burnley by local rock band Slack Babbath.
The aim was to have a good day of rock, beer and fun and ever since, it certainly has been a phenomenal success.
Tribute acts from all over the UK have graced the stage including the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Led Zepplin and many more!
A major part of the line up is always used to showcase local bands and to give them a chance to show what they are made of and that will be the same again this year!
Quazfest made a successful return to it's maiden venue in 2006...
See you there, Sat Aug 9th for Quazfest VII
=====================================
This year Quazfest (the seventh, to be held on Sat 9th Aug. at 2pm 'till late,
at The Kestrel Suite, Cow Lane, Burnley, Lancs.) is shaping up to be another
belter.
As usual, Quazfest will be taking the opportunity to showcase the very best of
local young talent, so the first band on will be Night Politics. Formaly known as
'Nitro', a young band with an average age of 15 that packs a real punch and have been described as similar to Muse.
They formed in 2005 and have already done some great gigs at Lowerhouse Cricket Club, Sanctualy and St, Ted's school.
Next up will be a real treat for the oldies, after 15 years in retirement we will
finaly see the return of Urvile Jacket, expect to see some vintage psychedelic punkrock done in the most original style you could imagine.
Featuring Iron Swales on drums and vocals, Hugo Bloop on guitar and Billy Wilson, who's the son of Hugo and was six years old the last time the band gigged, on bass.
Then, it's time for some serious noise in the form of downtempo thrash merchants, In Memorium.
Formed in May 2005, In Memorium were originaly a 5 piece band, who after losing a member in a mosh pit, became a 4 piece.
They have become well known at local venue, Sanctuary, where they took part in the hugely successful Sophie Lancaster charity gig and have also played at such esteemed venues such as Mercury Flux in Preston and also the Padiham Chillout Festival.
Check them out at myspace.com/memoriumin
Following that, we have Charley Sez... A fun, catchy, bouncy band with punky
overtones that is rapidly becoming one of Burnley's most popular bands, featuring ex members of The Monday Club and Slack Babbath's very own Boozy Gutfull, these guys are not to be missed and we guarantee that you will be humming their tunes for days afterwards.
Slack Babbath's special guests this year will be none other than I.C.O.N.
Burnley's local guys made good.
I.C.O.N. actualy played at the very first Quazfest in 2001 but in those days,
they had a drum machine instead of a drummer. They proved everyone who said you can't play gigs with a drum machine to be wrong on that day and pulled off an increadible set of classic style metal, but they've come a long way since
then.
They now have an exellent drummer in the shape of Hendy, have just recorded
their debut album 'Blindside' and will be playing Quazfest VII as part of their
'BLINDSIDE 08/09 TOUR' which sees them playing all over the country with the
likes of legendary metal innovators Diamond Head and Witchfynde.
They've also played gigs with ex-Iron Maiden frontman Blaze Bayley.
With a pedigree like that, you know you're in for a damn good show.
Finaly, those reprobates that organise all this, Slack Babbath will be doing
their thing.
Still the most authentic sounding Sabbath tribute around,(but you already know
this)they will be playing out this years Quazfest with their usual huge sound
and onstage antics. Expect to hear a few tunes in their set that you wouldn't
normaly hear at a standard Slack Babbath gig.
In between bands will be Hodgy's Rock Disco, plus a man who is steadily
becoming an institution at Quazfest, Astral Circus. The guy with the balloons,
knives, fire and even an 8ft pink flamingo!!!
Food will be available all day (as will the bar) and tickets, priced £6 (£7 on
the door) will be available from Electron Records in Burnley, Weird and
Wonderful, also in Burnley, and Planet Records in Colne from Wednesday 16th
July.
