You are the one who wrote the song that changed yours and 3 other guys forever. You are the one who wrote Bohemian Rhapsody and other hits like somebody to love and Good Old Fashioned Lover boy.
You were never forgotten.
Freddie you are the Queen of Queen
During their careers, the Queen have experienced different forms of rock music and pop already consolidated in the music scene, including arena rock, dance/disco,
glam rock, hard rock, heavy metal, symphonic rock, Psychedelic, pop rock and progressive rock.
They also composed songs inspired by country, ragtime and folk. In some cases they play even in punk rock and a little kind of speed metal; and came to reprocess in an original way even waltzes and blues.
- Characteristics of their LIVE performances -
"Our music has always been very engaging, able to bring people together and
embrace a crowd in a common state of joy and exaltation, which is exactly
what happens in a sporting event, for example in a football match, only that
with us are all on the same side"
(Brian May)
The Queen are particularly famous for their concerts held between the seventies and eighties. Freddie Mercury wanted to show that each of the band was a showy spectacle. They were wearing extravagant clothing, which created a taste stracarico that transformed each of their concert in a show style often too kitsch.
In the seventies the four wore clothes created by fashion designer Zandra Rhodes. These clothes were very strange and different, you move from long dresses to dress very members (like the famous checkered dress worn by Freddie Mercury). In the following decade stopped from going Zandra Rhodes, rising to more casual clothes and less bizarre (one of them is the famous yellow jacket concert at Wembley, July 12, 1986). Even the hair of the four was changed during the decades but attenne always fashionable without being characteristics of particular innovation. For almost all the seventies sfoggiavano hair long, as was typical for all the time; in the eighties all group members except Brian May, cut their hair.
Throughout claimed 707 concerts, from 1970 to 1986 (Knebworth), across all continents and bringing audiences up to 325,000 people (Rock In Rio, 1985). Their most famous performance was that at Live Aid, which lasted 20 minutes.
Since 1973, with the release of its first album Queen, until after 1986 A Kind of Magic, the band accoppiava the disc with the tour. This custom was interrupted at the end of the eighties, because of the first symptoms of AIDS to Freddie Mercury. The list of tracks changed year to year, changing the length of concerts. In 1973 and 1974 the Queen played almost all the songs discs Queen and Queen II, more short medley of rock and roll songs of the fifties, as Jailhouse Rock and Big Spender (ricantata during the concert Wembley 1986).
From tour Sheer Heart Attack at the end of 1974, the band added as the last piece of the English national anthem, God Save The Queen ammiccando what Hendrix did with the U.S.. On this tour the song Liar was stretched even up to 7 minutes for the numerous requests from fans, while Keep Yourself Alive was sung by Mercury with a tambourine in hand. In the tour of A Night at the Opera of 1975, the main track was Bohemian Rhapsody (even if supported by coretti pre-recorded during live performances) still managed to achieve gratifying results in classifications (9 weeks in the head in Great Britain). The song was divided into three: an intro that gave the green light to the concert, the first verses until the beginning of choral part (in live was in playback) and finally the "reprise" played in the final concert. A special ladder born in the tour because there is Love of My Life, a piece that became a cornerstone of concerts in the eighties.
In the double tour of A Day at the Races, the Queen arrived to play 25 songs in a single concert, and for the first time appeared in the ladder Tie Your Mother Down, a piece of well-suited to their live, which was again very often thereafter. Bohemian Rhapsody was "unified" and the choral singing was not live. From tour of News Of The World appeared two other columns that no longer left the stairs of concerts, We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, which replaced medley fifties and together the song Sheer Heart Attack closed the exhibition. Through concerts, the value of these songs greatly increased.
The tour was proposed Killers Live Love of My Life, sung by the public and become indispensable for future concerts. On this tour Freddie Mercury wore leather jackets and sunglasses, and left the dressing gowns members of Zandra Rhodes. We Will Rock You was proposed in 2 versions, one called "fast" and more rock, and classical in the final concert. The tour the album The Game of 1980 was one of the most beloved of American fans, relying heavily on song Another One Bites The Dust, who was present until 1986 between the ladders of songs. It is noted that comparirono also two songs from the soundtrack of Flash Gordon, Flash and The Hero, only two songs sung the album to which they belong. Mercury wore casual clothes and t-shirt sporting a sign of radical change not only aesthetic.
The tour Hot Space, despite low sales the album, was among the most esteemed thanks to the development of tracks on the disc version of rock, as can be seen on the DVD Queen on Fire - Live at the Bowl, on June 5, 1982. This was the last tour in the USA. In the series of exhibitions to promote the Works, the band completed in 2 years the tour. In 1984 the Queen for the first time arrived in Italy with two performances in Milan on 14 and September 15 to "Palazzetto dello Sport". On this tour returned medley rock and roll, but also some of the very first songs the band, as Stone Cold Crazy and Great King Rat.
The last on tour was the largest and most acclaimed, the Magic Tour, in 1986. A series of 26 exhibitions, all in Europe, went into parks or stadiums and contained many thousands of spectators. Only in Britain there were 400,000 spectators, and organized two dates at Wembley for 11 and July 12. Mercury in mid-concert reminded often that the Queen would continue together, deleting those noises of dissolution that the press claimed. The last show was originally set for Marbella, Spain; after the producer Harvey Goldsmith was able to arrange a date at Stevenage, Knebworth Park, for August 9. The last concert was one of the most sought-level voice Freddie Mercury, which according to some sources, already knew of his illness; viewers were 150.000, and some live tracks were recorded in the collection Live Magic.
- Influences on other artists -
Initially despised by many critics, especially in the U.S., the Queen were subsequently reassessed by someone, even if not by critics refined, for having an impact on some artist next in the genre (arena rock, glam rock , hard rock, heavy metal, pop rock, progressive rock).
Moreover, many musicians of various styles, nations and generations, have declared to be guided in large part to the group in London. Among the artists who cited them for their influences include Ben Folds Five, Blind Guardian, Def Leppard, Dream Theater, Extreme, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Guns N 'Roses, Kansas, Metallica, George Michael, Marilyn Manson, Kaiser Chiefs, Muse, The Ark, Mika, The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails , Panic! At the Disco, The Smashing Pumpkins, Virgin Steele, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Styx and Sweet and many others... Michael Jackson , a friend of Freddie Mercury in the early eighties, cited Hot Space album as inspiration for Thriller, which had also participate Mercury same.
The group was also considered inspiring neoclassical metal, guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen.
The Queen have also influenced some metal band today as the Rhapsody of fire and Angra, which stretches "queenimaniacs" especially in songs that depart from metal, such as Time, Wuthering Heights and Reaching Horizon. The song: "Stone Cold Crazy", from the disk of 1974 Sheer Heart Attack, is often mentioned even gender as speed and thrash metal. In 1990, Metallica recorded this song a cover, appeared on the album Rubaiyat - Electra's 40th Anniversary - and won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 1991.
- Musical and theater -
In 2002 a musical or "rock opera" based on songs of Queen, entitled We Will Rock You, was inaugurated at the Dominion Theatre in London. The musical was written by the author and English
actor Ben Elton, in collaboration with Brian May and Roger Taylor and with the help of Robert De Niro.
It was also put on stage in:
Madrid and Barcelona (Spain);
Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane, (Australia);
Cologne, Germany;
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,
South Africa, Las Vegas and Zurich, Switzerland.
The original production was scheduled for Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Dominion Theatre, but because of requests, the show has been extended indefinitely. The launch of musical coincides with the golden jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. As part of the celebration, Brian May performed a solo of the English hymn: God Save the Queen (remaking similar the Jimi Hendrix american hymn in the woodstock festival) from the roof of Buckingham Palace and even the grand finale with big stars like Eric Clapton, Elton John, where all have executed some immortal songs of the famous ex-Beatles Sir Paul McCartney.
- Curiosity -

Freddie Mercury said that it would accept only if Rob Halford had performed with the Royal Ballet (with whom Freddie was usually perform). What, however, was dropped, and not if they did nothing more. This fact did not diminish the esteem between the two artists, since it has not assumed a tone never unpleasant.

WELCOME to MySpace page dedicated to Italian fan's Queen. The band Queen as we know are one of the legendary band ROCK on the planet, and since I was a child I follow this great band...
About me:
I am an italian girl born in Rome Italy, 28 years ago. I like the music of Queen from the time when I was child and am a big fan of this mythic and fabulous band. Maybe the word fan is few. As matter of fact I grow up with the music of Freddie and his band and their lyrics helped me on taking over some unpleasant moments of my life: It is a hard life... was singing Freddie. Taking a look trough internet pages I realized that, even if many years are passed by from the death of leader, the interest on the music of Queen is still very high. On MySpace I found some interesting blogs about it, particularly those created by the many cover bands of Queen (still always well-meaning to keep alive the flame of their memory). Not enough! Just I want something more. I want to try to talk about the musical life of Queen in a quite different way. I shall try it, with the remarkable help of Carlo, Giorgio, Stefania and Alessandro… and with your help too. Meanwhile we are building up the site and, slowly but surely, will be created a good work. Believe me, it will be fabulous!
If you intend to join our working group, you are welcome! Silvia
The Queen is one of the most important rock bands in the history of music, very popular especially in the seventies and eighties.
Despite the death of frontman Freddie Mercury, which took place on November 24, 1991, still maintains a large following both among the old among new generations. Their name is equivalent appellation of English Queen, an ironic reference to the Queen Mother. It is estimated that the group has sold about 300 million discs, of which over 35.5 million in the United States alone. In their nation of origin, Great Britain, are second only to the Beatles as exchange material to collectors. In the 2001 the band was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, in Ohio, and in 2004 in the UK Music Hall of Fame. The group, formed by musicians with a strong compositional imagination, has collected over the years a great success with the public and had a strong influence on generations that have followed and the musicians that have inspired it. Each of the components was able to take care of part of composing songs (many pieces written several hands, as well as those composed of the member-only independently), but Freddie Mercury was the most well known of the group, both because of the role of leaders both for their unique voice capability (with an extension equal to four octaves, without the use of falsetto). Today by many critics Freddie Mercury is considered the best singer in history. Among the songs written by Freddie Mercury remember We Are the Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love. Of the other members of the band are very also cited Radio Ga Ga by Roger Taylor, We Will Rock You and Who Wants to Live Forever of Brian May, and Another One Bites the Dust "and" I Want to Break Free of John Deacon. In almost every album published, except in the very first, was present at least one song written by every member of the band. The Queen are considered by public opinion one of the largest groups in the history of rock, a fact confirmed by the great result of which still enjoy after the death of Freddie Mercury, which took place in 1991 because of AIDS. However they had to cope with even severe criticism, both from the press generalist is of some items close to the Catholic (for the texts sometimes little pudichi, but also for homosexuality Mercury), and even by other exponents of the scene pop / rock. Nevertheless, the band had an important role in the history of rock world and has managed to survive their music over time.
The beginnings
The band Queen formed in 1970 after Freddie Mercury (real name Farrokh Bulsara), singer and pianist of the group Sour Milk Sea, had united to Smile, remained in two (Brian May and Roger Taylor) after abandoning the singer and bass player Tim Staffell. Immediately after its entry in the group, Mercury proposed to change the name of the band in Queen.
In 1971, after trying in the first few performances bass, the band finally decided to take John Deacon.
"I thought the name - Queen -. It's just a name, but it is very royal course,
and plays well. It's a strong name, very universal and immediate. It has
many potential visual and is open to all kinds of interpretations."
(Freddie Mercury)
The seventies
"Our albums tend to be a collection of songs, because they are writing all in the group, all together. "
(John Deacon)
In the summer of 1973 the Queen published their first album, from the title. The output was the album advance of the publication of the individual Keep Yourself Alive, but did not ever appearance in the British rankings (also due to a lack of radio promotion), and indeed was even called "obscene" by critics of Rolling Stone magazine. After years after its publication, but Queen would have been considered an excellent debut album. The disc also contains Seven Seas of Rhye, but it's not the same version known by most people, that is published as a single the following year and included in their first greatest hits, but an instrumental version.
In February 1974 saw the light Queen II, their second album, divided in two, side White (White Side) and side Noir (Black Side), made respectively by Brian May and Freddie Mercury with a contribution of Roger Taylor in the White Side. This album has been repeatedly considered by critics a concept, focusing on the eternal struggle between good and evil. The individual extract was sung
version of the Seven Seas of Rhye, their first hit, which reached, but only in Great Britain, the top ten stable situation to the tenth position of the standings.
The 1974 proved a more satisfactory years for training English, especially because in October managed to publish Sheer Heart Attack, the third album in the studio. Consisting of a wide range of musical styles, the single most famous stretch of the album was Killer Queen, which reached the second position, but this time only in Great Britain. The variety of musical genres passes of the hard rock Now I'm Here and Stone Cold Crazy (Metallica made a cover in 1990), to rock Brighton Rock and Tenement Funster, ballads like Dear Friends, up to a hint of charleston with Bring Back That Leroy Brown.
"It was a terrible job: a full week to try to realize the ideas of Freddie, and every time that mi delude he had finished with choirs came and said: - I thought to add a little 'of Galileo - "
(Roy Thomas Baker - about the birth of Bohemian Rhapsody)
The year 1975 was the assertion. The Queen passed much time in registration room, six production studios, with the guidance of producer Roy Thomas Baker and effect
album A Night at the Opera, the album more expensive at the time. The title draws to its film of the brothers Marx, and is one of their most successful albums. Contains one of their most famous songs, Bohemian Rhapsody, written by Freddie Mercury and accompanied by what is called the first video clip of history: the song remained for nine
consecutive weeks at the top of the English standings (matching the 1957 Diana's hit by Paul Anka). Noteworthy were also songs written by other components, as I'm In Love With My Car by Roger Taylor, among other song sung by its drummer, The Prophet's Song by Brian May and You're My Best Friend from John Deacon, his second composition for the band and came in seventh place in the standings English. This album was their first success in the United States.
In 1976, after having obtained some success of critics and public, Queen exhibited in a free concert in Hyde Park, London, where he gathered about 176,000 people, a good result for the band. On this occasion were also presented songs belonging to their next album, A Day at the Races, whose title refers once again to another eponymous film of
the brothers Marx. At that time, and actually even today, the disc was not considered at the previous year. However contained songs much appreciated as Somebody to Love, where the Queen try a little 'to refer to gospel, hard rock song Tie Your Mother Down, strong piece of all their future concerts (for nothing despite a sublime 28° place in charts) and The Millionaire Waltz, who continues the musical eclecticism of Bohemian Rhapsody.
The 1977 saw the birth of punk movement, but the Queen knew how to adapt to fashion of the moment once again and resist the crisis in the rock. In two and a half months recorded News of the World, their sixth album, which is characterised by sounds more immediate and raw and was their second success in the United States. The album contains two "hit stadium," often played at sporting events, We Are the Champions and We Will Rock You,
respectively, written by Freddie Mercury and Brian May, the piece pre-punk Sheer Heart Attack by Roger Taylor And the ballad of John Deacon Spread Your Wings.
In 1978 the Queen launched Jazz, with a party above the lines, as in their usual style, in New Orleans, in homage to its musical style but also wanted to play on words, since English jazz can also mean "chatter, gossip."
The album was criticized by both the press is one part of the public, for being too bold and artefact, the same reasons that led many others to acclaimed it.
Among his most famous songs are Fat Bottomed Girls, a hard rock a little 'raw written by Brian May, Bicycle Race, a piece that takes around myths and clichés of and accompanied by a video (later censored) nude girls presented by bicycle, and Do not Stop Me Now, cheerful cavalcade of piano and voice, both written by Freddie Mercury. In the album is also the song hard rock Mustapha,
whose intro Arabic became a classic concerts in the seventies.
After a long series of concerts in 1979 came out Live Killers, their first album live. In the following years, all four members of the band is declared not met by
the sound-mixing disk, published by the will of EMI for the sole purpose of calming down the numerous publications bootleg at the time.
The Emblem's Queen
The emblem of the band (designed by Mercury) includes the zodiac signs of the four components, overhang from a Arabian Phoenix, mythological bird known for its ability to return alive from its own ashes, chosen as a symbol of immortality and hope. The logo is made up of two lions
(Roger Taylor and John Deacon) to protect the crown of Queen at the centre of a "Q" (Queen, precisely), a crab for the sign of cancer (Brian May) and two fairies who represent the virgin (Freddie Mercury).
The eighties
In 1980 the Queen carried out another stylistic turn,
editing album The Game. Entrust care of the producer Mack,
we cleaned up their style from the pomposity glam seventies and launched with sounds dry and more direct in the eighties. This album marked the emergence, for the first time on an album of Queen, synthesizers, the absence of which was expressly remarked credits in the previous album. The Game contains some of the best-selling single of the band English: Crazy Little Thing Called Love from Freddie Mercury, the first number one band in the United States; Another One Bites the Dust of John Deacon, the piece's best-selling Queen of All Time in the U.S.,
Billboard charts in rock, dance and R & B and simultaneously launched as an individual, acording to a voice not confirmed, on the advice of Michael Jackson;
Save Me, a ballad sound of Brian May. The Game reached for the first time on first place in the standings, both in Britain and the United States. In the same year the Queen composed the soundtrack of the film Flash Gordon.Although the film is revealed after a commercial flop, the film had the merit of increasing the fame yet already exaggerated the quartet.
The 1981 saw the Queen engaged in another world tour, which brought them in Europe, United States, Japan and for the first time in Latin America, where in an exhibition was present even Diego Armando Maradona. In the same year he published the first official collection of their most successful songs, Greatest Hits, which is among the best-selling discs by the quartet (according to the latest estimates, 12 times platinum disc).
After the tour, in 1982, the Queen dedicated to recording the album next, Hot Space. The disc feel the effect of the success of your predecessor, The Game, and abandoned rock sounds to be influenced by disco and funk. At was considered a betrayal by the fans of the old guard, accustomed of the hard English rock band, and their worst album, despite a good fourth place in the standings. The songs were recorded with a different production, but not lacking pieces of classic style hard rock and glam as Under Pressure, written and interpreted together with David Bowie, Back Chat and Staying Power, the ballad
Las Palabras De Amor " Life is real" (dedicated to John Lennon) and more aggressive as pieces Put Out The Fire and Action This Day, all songs much more estimated live not on the disc, thanks to arrangements more rock and immediate. Michael Jackson was inspired to Hot Space for his best-selling albums Thriller (1982). Always attentive to the trade of their albums and because the response of the public not exciting for Hot Space;
in 1983 the Queen suspended all activities and dedicated to projects soloists.
After 1983 go back the first voices of their possible dissolution.
In 1984 he returned with a new album, The Works, which contains four individual:
Radio Ga Ga, written by Roger Taylor and one of its most famous hymns stadium, made famous by hand clappin'
in the video led by Freddie Mercury (the song was also performed by the group during the Festival of Sanremo,
in February 1984), the ballad It's a Hard Life, a piece partly inspired the work I Pagliacci,
and whose video clip is one of the favorites of Freddie Mercury,; Hammer to Fall and I Want to Break Free,
the song became an anthem of freedom for the peoples of South America.
Precisely the latter will rise further controversy on Queen. The video that accompanies it,
at the idea of a girl by Roger Taylor, sees the four disguised as the protagonists of a popular series of English.
Judged very funny by the British, was rejected for bad taste in the United States and banned from television.
Precisely the limited sales, despite the success of the four individuals and the presence of other songs and
experimental quality about The Works, were cause for tensions in the other group.
In the same year the Queen exhibited in Sun City, South Africa, where there was the then racist regime of apartheid.
For that performance were much criticized, at home and in the rest of the world.
"The Queen was no longer a unified group but four individuals who worked together. The Live Aid has totally revitalized, given back the enthusiasm of a time "
(Declaration's John Deacon.)
The 1985 saw them protagonists of two major musical events. The January 12 were the main guests of Rock in Rio, where played before about 300,000 people, both in the initial evening in the final of January 19. The event that gave them the story was, however, Live Aid, humanitarian concert organized by Bob Geldof and held on July 13 1985, which saw the participation of many international artists. The Queen exhibited to Wembley for about twenty minutes. According to the
press, public and other musicians present, for once in agreement, their interpretation was memorable and even one of the best of all time, in particular, Radio Ga Ga, sung by Freddie Mercury who led the claps of the stadium, remained in history. Participation in the Live Aid revitalized the Queen, who published the
individual hard rock One Vision, which then appears in the soundtrack of the film: Eagles steel. The passage represented in their next album.
A Kind of Magic came out in 1986, and the compositions are part of the soundtrack of the film: Highlander.
The individual A Kind of Magic came first in no less than 35 nations and re-launched in a definitive way the Queen,
who began the Magic Tour, their tour bigger and spectacular. In 26 dates gathered around one million spectators, of which 400,000 only in Great Britain.
Of particular importance were the dates of Budapest, the time still under the influence of the Soviet Union (was the first concert of a European artist in a country of
Eastern Europe from 1964), at Wembley Stadium and the final one to Knebworth.
A Wembley Freddie said, to rebut the umpteenth items dissolution, "Forget those rumours,
we're gonna stay together 'till we die fucking well, I'm sure!" - or - Forget these voices,
we remain together until death damned, I am more than sure! " - .
The concert at Wembley Stadium was one of the most famous and celebrated.
It opened with the song One Vision, and then ended with the British anthem God Save the Queen.
The concert lasted more than two hours, was one of the first times that Queen presented the
song Who Wants to Live Forever. A Knebworth, August 9, 1986, Freddie Mercury exhibited
for the last time with the Queen in one of its most vocal performance appreciated.
After the Magic Tour, the Queen took a break of three years. Freddie worked with the
soprano Montserrat Caballé to record the album Barcelona, whose song became the
same name three years after the anthem of the Olympic Games of Barcelona 1992.
In 1989 the Queen returned with the album The Miracle, which contains five individuals including the powerful I Want It All (third place in the standings) and the solar The Miracle, who bolted to the disc platinum in the U.S.. For the first time every single song was credited to the whole band, although for most of the time the songs were mostly written by a single component. Of the 'album also includes individuals such as The Invisible Man, Breakthru and Scandal. The absence of a tour, and increasingly rare appearances of Freddie in public, fuelling speculation in the press on the health of the singer. Freddie is merely to say that the decision not to make a tour was due only to him, as well as the desire to break the cycle album / tour of years past.
The nineties
"I do not think that ever forget the day that Freddie
told us of the disease. We went away from somewhere
with death in the heart. "
(Brian May)
On the right there's a photo of the statue dedicated to Freddie Mercury in Montreux, Swizerland.
In the 1991 items on Freddie Mercury sick with AIDS became increasingly insistent on scandal-mongering paper, but were denied with equal determination by the singer has always been at war with the press to protect its privacy
(for whose protection loved compared to Greta Garbo). In the same year the album came out Innuendo, one of their best known to audiences and critics. The homonym song is a small rock opera of six minutes, composed of various parties including a solo flamenco (conducted by Steve Howe, historian guitarist of Yes). The video support to the individual, allowed the Queen to fly their own history, exceeding in length to Bohemian Rhapsody. All albums fell again of a climate sad at the worsening disease Freddie, who for his own health problems not appeared in some video. Among the other songs are also cited: Headlong, powerful hard rock, I'm Going Slightly Mad, surreal song and deliberately ironic, the dramatic and epic The Show Must Go On, an impressive vocal difficulties and These Are The Days of Our Lives, a memory of time spent together, in whose video Mercury appeared publicly for the last time. Chance, but significantly, the last words of the song "I Still Love You" (I love You still) seem to represent almost a last farewell of the singer to his fans.
On 23 November 1991 Freddie Mercury announced officially the world have AIDS:
"I want to confirm they are HIV-positive: I have AIDS. I considered it appropriate to keep this information confidential until now in order to protect the privacy of those around me. However, it is time that my friends and my fans around the world know the truth. I hope that everyone will join me, to my doctors and to the whole world in the fight against this terrible disease."
The world has not learned in time the news that November 24 of that year at 18:48,
Freddie disappeared prematurely at the age of 45 years.
In 1991, Mercury said in its most recent interview:
"I do not want to change the world, I leave that my songs to express feelings and the feelings that I feel and I tried. Being happy is the most important goal for me, now, and I am happy when my work proves it.
At the end all the mistakes that I made and all its excuses will be charged only to me:
I like to think that he was only myself... Now I want to only have all the joy and serenity possible,
and live as much life may, for all the little time that remains for me to live. "
The April 20, 1992 took place at Wembley the Freddie Mercury Tribute, the concert in memory of the singer.
Together with three surviving members of the group, alternated on stage other artists thick as Metallica,
Guns N 'Roses, David Bowie, Robert Plant, George Michael, Elton John, Liza Minnelli, Extreme,
Def Leppard and many others who also plays songs of Queen.
The concert, as well as the exceptional nature of music, signalled for having called the world on the tragedy of AIDS. The judgement of criticism from a purely musical was pitiful:
traces of Queen sung by other singers put on display, if ever there was need, the inadequacy of these against the voice and interpretation of Freddie Mercury. The only George Michael seemed to cope quite well.
More controversy arose from the "Our Father recited by David Bowie during his performance.
In 1995 came out Made in Heaven, with the latest unpublished recordings of Freddie Mercury, which reported the Queen at the top of sales charts. The disc contains old tracks revised unpublished in the previous albums, as My Life Has Been Saved (b-side dating back to 1989), plus the last traces of Freddie Mercury vocal recorded before his death, as A Winter's Tale, the ballad "Too Much Love Will Kill You "(song soloist May) and Mother Love. The latter seems to be the last vocal track recorded by Mercury, even if the producer David Richards said they have heard the recording of at least two other demos.
In 1997 was published Queen Rocks, a compilation that collects the toughest songs the band, including Stone Cold Crazy, One Vision, Hammer To Fall and I Want It All. In addition there was a complex review of I Can not Live With You and No-One But You, unpublished song played by the three remaining members of the band, with the alternation to the voice of Brian May and Roger Taylor, in memory of Freddie Mercury and later as Lady Diana, disappeared that year (will be the last song in which John Deacon will play down to the Queen).
In 1999 he published the Greatest Hits III, a collection considered by critics to keep up the name Queen. " This disc contains: Soloists traces of Freddie Mercury as Living On My Own and Barcelona, a remixed version of Under Pressure (single individual collection) and several duets, explaining that unusual "+" on the album cover beside the name "Queen". Another One Bites The Dust on this occasion is taken up by Wyclef Jean, while The Show Must Go On and Somebody to Love are sung respectively by Elton John and George Michael. Close the tracklist No-One But You and Thank God It's Christmas (single of 1984 never previously included in an album), and the individual most successful extracts of the 'album Made in Heaven.
Queen + Paul Rodgers
Despite the disappearance of Freddie Mercury, undisputed leader and symbol of the band, the music of Queen has survived the singer, continuing to collect success in the following years and winning many fans among the new generations.
On June 3, 2002 the Queen remaining (May and Taylor) were hosted at Party at the Palace in London, where they played in order: "Radio Ga Ga" (voice of battery Taylor and Phil Collins), "We Will Rock You "(Voice of May and duet batteries Taylor and Collins)," We Are the Champions "(voice of Will Young) and" Bohemian Rhapsody "(in a spectacular exhibition of cast from the musical We Will Rock You).
In 2003 instead were hosted at Pavarotti & Friends, where they played "We Will Rock You" (sung by Brian May), "Radio Ga Ga" (sung by Roger Taylor), "Too Much Love Will Kill You" (in a duet between Brian May and Luciano Pavarotti,
who sang the same song with verses in Italian), and "We Are the Champions" (sung performed with Zucchero "Sugar" Fornaciari).
Proof of continuous affection Fan is the world tour supported by 2005 to 2006 by Brian May and Roger Taylor,
who has been a huge success in Europe and the United States. At the side of guitarist and drummer there was the former singer of Free and Bad Company, Paul Rodgers. For choice of two members of the band, the tour has always been heralded as Queen + Paul Rodgers, to specify how they were not a change of training but a "add" to the occasional original band,
driven by the need to have a singer. Previously, in fact, many fans had expressed their discontent for a possible new formation of the band history. But the remaining
Queen have never tried a new singer, despite the admiration of many artists such as Pop Star Robbie Williams, who in 2004 had even declared: "I would have liked to take the place of Freddie Mercury in Queen." After so many years, the cooperation of Paul Rodgers was random and was made possible only thanks to the synergy between him and the other Queen, created during a session rhythm.
From this as other projects of the band without Freddie Mercury, bassist John Deacon has always dissociated, while not reporting their hostility towards these operations. His last appearance with the rest of the band dates back to January 17, 1997, the Ballet for Life - Queen & Music by Mozart held in Paris, France. On this occasion was performed live "The Show Must Go On", along with Elton John. Now John Deacon lives in England with his family, and works as a small businessman.
Thus in the spring of 2005 the Queen + Paul Rodgers leave for a tour that also touch 4 Italian cities (Rome, Milan, Florence and Pesaro)
in spite of the very few presences in our country during their career with Freddie Mercury and John Deacon,
namely say one appearance in San Remo in 1984 and always in the same year two concerts on 14 and September 15 at Palasport Milan San Siro,
then collapsed under the weight of snow in January the following year.
The tour collecting great success and this causes May, Taylor and Rodgers groped to the adventure in Japan and North America where risk equally successful.
The September 19, 2005, the European tour Queen + Paul Rodgers gave life to live double CD "Return of the Champions", a collection of classic hits in ladder concerts in the tour, including some pieces of Free and Bad Company as "All right now, "Can not get enough" and "Feel like making love."
On August 15, 2006, Brian May said that the Queen back in the studio to record a new album of study, after 12 years of discographic silence. The "new" training includes May, Taylor and Paul Rodgers.
In January 2007, the guitarist of the group said that during the months of February and March was expected to register the new disc with Paul Rodgers, arguing that will be all new material and not compare with that of previous years. In addition, May has announced that in 2007 there will be no tour, which is scheduled for 2008 instead.
In March 2008, was announced by the group is launching the new album "The Cosmos Rocks"
due out on 1 September 2008 is the new tour.
The tour will start September 16, 2008 and includes 25 dates, including two Italians, Rome (September 26, 2008)and Milan (September 28, 2008).
Queen plays in the 27th June 2008, twenty years after rock stars gathered at Wembley to demand his release, the superstars have returned to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday. The inspirational revolutionary-turned-peacemaker has long regarded London as a second home. It was this city, under Ken Livingstone's GLC, that led the worldwide movement to free him during his twenty-seven years in captivity, and it is here that he has decided to celebrate his ninetieth birthday. The line-up includes Queen (atoning for their boycott-breaking Sun City show thirty years ago), Leona Lewis, Annie Lennox, Dame Shirley Bassey, Simple Minds, Eddy Grant, Razorlight and Sugababes. There is also pulsating South African music from the Soweto Gospel Choir, with more big acts still expected to confirm. Watch this space.
