QUEERTOWN - Texas' criticly acclaimed homo comedy performance ensemble, with casts in Dallas and Austin
Queertown blends original social/political satire with improvisation and song to create a unique, hilarious perspective of gay life in the USA. The cabaret of characters finds themselves caught in a land that exists somewhere between Ellen, Kids in the Hall, and a bizarro gay pride parade. The audience is invited to embrace the more flamboyant side of "Gaybraham" Lincoln, see what cops REALLY DO when they're alone in their patrol cars, and experience the dancing Lucy Liu's. The mission? To keep the audience laughing until they turn blue… or at least a lovely shade of lavender.
Founded by artistic director Doug Ewart in 2004, Queertown’s goal was to form a cast that truly reflects and celebrates Texas' diversity. The cast is a mix of gay, straight, and bi people working together towards the common goal of creating one damn funny show. They don’t villainize straight people, combat stereotypes, and even claim to play semi-nice with the government.
Queertown performed to sold-out crowds at the 2005 Dallas Comedy Festival, The West End Comedy Theatre 2005-2006 Season, The 2005 Dallas AIDS Interfaith Network Gala, The 2005 Dallas Gay Pride Festival, the 2006 Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival and Dallas' 2006 Out Of The Loop Theatre Festival. The Queertown cast has also been featured multiple times on the Q Television Network. DALLAS VOICE raves that Queertown is “something magical” and the DALLAS OBSERVER praised Queertown as “thoroughly fresh and intelligent” and “screamingly funny…Like Second City, The Groundlings or Little Britain, they’re smart-funny from the opening monologue to the stinging finale.”
