See above/below In case you were wondering (I didn't know which section to put this in) - my South Park-style avatars were created using the online South Park Studio v2, then screen-grabbed and modified using The GIMP to create the animated GIFs, add the t-shirt logos, etc.
  • Music

I have a wide-range, and somewhat eclectic, collection of music, from atmospheric/ethereal through indie/alternative rock/pop through gothic/darkwave and borderline punk/metal. I have a strong preference for female vocals, but do own a (very) small number of male vocal groups too. If I like it, I buy it - this is the about only common link in my musical tastes! ;-)

I buy CDs, DVDs and the odd vinyl record. I don't like downloadable music as a general rule except for checking out new songs/bands - give me media, artwork and lyrics I can hold in my hands any day - even though I seem to be forever running out of CD shelf space! ;-P I hate those CD spine stickers and any other hard-to-remove stickers - GRRR!! Check out Foamy's CDs rant! - he's so right about this stuff! Thanks to Collide for spreading the word about it (their posters are featured in this 'toon). :-)

The current list of artists in my collection is:

    PHEW!! :-P

I'm always adding more - will try to keep this list up-to-date... ;-)

If you have suggestions for bands/artists similar to these feel free to drop me a email/comment! Many of these artists are on Myspace and are in my Friends Space so do check out their pages. If I've missed any/your Myspace page please let me know too! If you get rejected don't take it personally, I'm just trying to keep a focus on it being just for the music I like (an eclectic/oddball collection it is too! :-P ) so it's not a reflection on you or the quality of your music - OK?! Cheers.

A few places I shop online:
Projekt - see also @ Myspace - their online sale is definitely worth a look!
CD Baby - their $5 sale specials are a great source of new music and bargains
    Middle Pillar
Nilaihah Records - see also @ Myspace
    Alfa-Matrix Label Group
I have no affiliation with these companies/people! I'm just a happy customer who has bought CDs, DVDs, t-shirts, etc. from them in recent times (several times in some cases!) and have been happy with their service. "Your mileage may vary" - but I would be suprised - and disappointed - if it did...

I've not bought CDs from The Fossil Dungeon directly but I do have some of their label's releases (eg. Butterfly Messiah, Falling You and Mirabilis) - check out their Myspace profile too.

I have an Ibanez SR590TT bass guitar (an attractive and fairly rare? bass - even though it has some bubbling and clouding of the gold coated/anodised? bridge) and an Ibanez Jet-King 1 (JTK1) electric guitar (the attention to detail with the pick-guar placement and poor coating finish is not up to Ibanez's usual standards I must admit, but for the price it seemed like a good beginner's guitar with some nice features like coil-tapped pickups and that funky retro pawnshop styling LOL). I've more or less taught myself to play the bass by ear, jamming to Lush and Skulker songs in particular, but I must confess the extra strings and inconsistent string tuning on the guitar confuses an ex-cellist like me so I really have done nothing with the JTK1... :-P My cello hasn't been played serious since I left school, and lurks in a cupboard. I've though about dragging it out and playing it but I think it needs new strings and the price of them is not inconsiderable these days... I got a Ukelele last Xmas just for fun and I play it about as much as the rest of my instuments (err, yes I must make more effort! :-P )

  • Movies

I enjoy going to the cinema with family and friends but I usually watch most movies on DVD or TV. I enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, action, drama, documentaries and comedies but not so keen on soppy romance, musicals, or horror... I have a small DVD collection, half music DVDs, half movies (eg. The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and a few docos (The Jeremy Clarkson Collection and the like)
  • Television

I don't watch much TV - there's few programs worth watching here... :-P Favourite shows include Mythbusters, Spicks and Specks, Top Gear, Catalyst, The Glasshouse (now axed... :-( ), Scrapheap Challenge, The New Inventors (sorry guys but I fast forward through all the chatter and only watch the inventions parts... ;-P), Collectors, Antiques Roadshow, The Cook and The Chef, various nature and other documentaries - stuff like that.
  • Books

Mainly fantasy/sci-fi, nature, occasional non-fiction. Favourite authors include Julian May and Gerald Durrell. I recently finished re-reading The Hoobit and The Lord of The Rings trilogy, now tackling The Silmarillion (and it's a struggle so far!...) Other books I recently (re)read include three Red Dwarf books, Arthur C Clarke's Space Odyssey trilogy (and some other books by him), many of Jeremy Clarkson's books (Born to be Riled, You've Got Soul, etc.) and Julian May's "Moon" trilogy.

Blurbs

About me:

(My location isn't right - it's the wrong state, I'm in Melbourne, not Sydney... But, hopefully your location will be a little more accurate! I think you have to click on my map to record your location.)

Work in progress (I ..hate.. writing these things!! LOL)... So for now I've basically just dumped my profile from another (singles') site until I figure out what to put on Myspace!... ;-)

I'm a tall, average (more "party-keg" than "six-pack"... :-P ), quiet Aussie guy with a good sense of humour who is gentle, genuine and sensitive. I'm University educated (two degrees) and professionally employed.

Honesty, sensitivity and respect are important to me and I don't play mind-games. I'm looking for someone who shares these kinds of values too, *someone caring, genuine and honest*.

I love good food and drink, and enjoy cooking (OK so I mainly enjoy cooking for special occasions. Day-to-day cooking dinner is a bit of a drag so I tend to cheat and just nuke something! :-P ). Cafes, quiet restaurants, cosy dinners and drinks with friends are for me. Noisy/smokey clubs/pubs and the like are really not my scene. I'm not much of a party-animal or a dancer and I'm quietly spoken too.

I enjoy a wide-range of music (see below) but seldom any Top 10 stuff and often they're bands few people have heard of! :-P

I spend a lot (too much?) time on SecondLife - mainly as a "Neko" (although funnily enough I'm not really a cat person - I like pet cats of family and friends but not the roaming neighbourhood cats that kill possums and birds in my garden... >:-( ) Thanks for your interest! :-)

Who I'd like to meet:

I'm seeking that special someone, hopefully my soul-mate, who I'm attracted to both physically and as a person (naturally!). I'm in the inner Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and would like to meet only women from near that area. (If you live overseas or interstate then things won't progress past the email stage, if that - just so you know!...) Looking for a non-smoker and no kids please (sorry), slim, athletic or slimmer side of "average".

Also interested in chatting with friends too who share similar interests in music and stuff like that (I'm not only here looking for a serious relationship/dating). Please be aware that my MySpace friends list is very full so unless you're a band that tickles my musical fancy (and/or really cute :-P) I may have to deny adding you to my list - so sorry in advance if I don't add you to my list...

Joey levenson (So Young) provides the noisy guitarscape samples, Dean Garcia (Curve) adds more guitar, bass, drums and production. Add Rose Berlin into the fray connecting everything together with her beautiful understated angelic voice, and you get the very unique and special SPC ECO.
Listen to their psychedelic, electronic shoegaze noise at:::

    http://www.myspace.com/spceco

If you're in London on September the 11th 07 come by The Bull and Gate in Kentish Town NW5, to see SPC ECO on stage for their first ever show. Joey will not be playing as he's in Korea but Harry Garcia (Dean's 16 year old son) will be taking his place for the night...Check out the 'August 2007 News' blog or the SPC ECO forum at www.noise-fest.co.uk for more info.
