Quiet Kid officially disbanded in December of 2007, after ten years of playing their unique brand of Mod, Punk and Psych-influenced American Indie Rock out of the City of Chicago. During their decade in existence, they released 3 full-length discs (Imbicilica, Somewhere, and A Bright White Light), and 2 EP's. Their live shows ranged from aggressively intoxicated and shambolic, to groovily brilliant. On the stage, in addition to their originals, Quiet Kid covered tunes as varied as Sinead O'Connor's "The Emperor's New Clothes", The MC5's "American Ruse", INXS's "This Time", The Charlatans' "The Only One I know", Johnny Thunders' "Chinese Rocks", Love & Rockets' "No New Tale To Tell", and Elastica's "Connection", among many others, making each one their own for the moment.
They were signed to NeedleDrop Records following an incendiary, but short set during the 2004 International Pop Overthrow Festival in Chicago. Independent to the end, in 2007, the band donated their tunes "Where's The Fashion?" and "Dollface" to the production of "Cooler By The Lake", a DVD promoting the arts and culture of Chicago.
Quiet Kid's lead member, Jamie Bachmann, is currently working on an album of what he terms "electronic punk music" under the moniker, "Groovy Times" (www.myspace.com/groovytimes1).
Thank you very much...we try to check on everyones interest's or the sounds they enjoy,..We like what you had going on your page...and figured we would take the chance, you would like what we enjoy the most...and thats make music...but for the most part... now that we got that horrible and cheesy statement out of the way....this looks like another typical, but somewhat long band comment... But heck at least its a comment... Right?
A preview from my upcoming review of "A Bright White Light" by Quiet Kid (NeedleDrop, 2007)
On this new QK record, there IS something ambitious about the band's agenda, to purposefully misquote a very positive the review the band previously received in the influential "Amplifier Magazine." "Amplifier" compared them to a hosts of bands, including "most significantly, Oasis." Oasis has been dead and buried for many years and the new record by Quiet Kid sounds nothing like Oasis, if in fact they ever did. They aren't "biters," in Hip Hop terminology, and lead singer/songwriter Jamie Bachman is "on some new shit," this time around as well. This record is a pretty big leap forward for the band. On the lead single "Jets, Baby," the group has slowed down the traditional power-pop/alt-rock group that has been rather played out by this point. It isn't slowed to a crawl, but it rocks just the same. Another important point: THE GROOVE CAN NEVER BE TOO SLOW.
Or, to quote Paul McCartney, of another group that has exerted some influence on Bachman's writing, "I'll be your jet!" Baby.
Hey Quiet Kid! Thanks for the add! Oh, sorry, hope that wasn't too loud... ;^) I like your songs. Very clean and tight. Edgy, punk and driving. Post some full length versions so we can really hear them. Stop by, have a listen and let me hear from you. Hope to see you there. Thanks again.
