"Beauty is before me,
And beauty is behind me.
Above and below me hovers the beautiful.
I am surrounded by it.
I am immersed in it.
In my youth I am aware of it,
And in old age I shall walk quietly
The beautiful trail."
I sadly report that my Siamese Cat, "Quinoa" was laid to rest on 10/27/2008 after I determined with the assistance of her Vet that her Thyroid and other conditions had made her quality of life drop to the point of little hope of easing her increasing suffering. I was torn with the hardest decision of my life to end her suffering via lethal injection. I am so heartbroken as I write this I can hardly see through my tears. She gasped her last breath at around 4:20 PM on my 48th birthday. She was around 16-18 years of age. I have a hole in my heart right now that feels like it is killing me. She was not my pet. She was like a wheelchair and a soulmate all in one little darling creature that helped keep me half sane. Most people don't understand the kind of love I speak of. I received a sympathy card postmarked 10-29-08 on 10-30-08 which can be read by Clicking here. After she died I played Amazing Grace on a Hohner Meisterklasse Harmonica in the key of C. The Veterinarian commented: "that was nice, I have never heard someone perform music like that for their animal companion"...
My favorite musical instrument is the Harmonica. I also play acoustic and electric Guitars and tinker around on the electronic Keyboard at times. I am attempting to learn to play a wooden Didgeridoo but it is not coming along very fast as I am not adept at circular breathing (I suck at circular breathing so far). I collect Harmonicas, Hats and am beginning to collect Microphones. On Friday (10-3-2008) I drove all the way from Oregon City to Corvallis (160 miles round trip) just to pick up a customized vintage Turner Bullet Microphone with an old screw-on amphenol style cable. Now I can really play my Harps amplified in style. On the drive back I heard the voice of Elwood Blues over KGON FM radio saying: "I'm on a mission from God"; I could TOTALLY relate to his mission!!! I used to live with an old female Siamese Cat named Quinoa who was like a creative Muse to me but she grew ill from Thyroid disease and I had her suffering ended by the Veterinarian. I am an avid admirer of Canines and love to spend time with the Dogs...There are times I think I may have missed my calling; I admire the work of Mr. Shaun Ellis from Wolf Pack Management. I think it would be a nice break from society to hang with Wolves and just be a part of a pack...Click Here for an interview with Shaun Ellis...I am a Veteran of the United States Air Force.
I adopted my Companion Assist Animal Duke on November 3rd, 2008. He is an extremely well behaved Chihuahua who responds to a number of commands when they are given in Spanish. Duke has perfect balance and is capable of walking upright on his hind legs (he is like a circus side show act just waiting for me to channel his talents). Duke is so cute he attracts a wee bit of attention at times, so I had to quickly learn to warn people to stop that nasty tendency people have to try to reach for him while he is in my arms. I will be getting him some patches soon and starting his training as a Service Animal so there will be a good excuse to prohibit strangers from approaching him while he is working. He does not like anyone to hold him until HE has fully warmed up to them enough that he jumps up on them first. He chooses who he will let hold him and I am becoming more and more adamant about educating people on how not to give off such nervous energy. Some people (most often men) are really horrid at the nervous energy they freely vibrate and seem to have enormous difficulty toning it down. Duke helps me recognize these people so he seems to confirm and even make me more aware of who is relaxed and who is too tense for their own good. He helps me to steer clear of spending too much time around persons vibrating nervous energy. This is not to say these are "bad" people, but it seems it could be quite beneficial to have a motive for not dwelling in spaces where there is appreciable nervous energy.
For anyone wanting to know more about Service Animals I offer you the following links:
Other Musicians who share common interests, especially Harmonica players...OMMP Patients and Providers...people that understand cotton agriculture needs to be banned since it requires mass pesticides as it destroys the nutrient content of the soil it grows in. Then we all wear the toxic clothes made of it and they wear out prematurely as it does not last like hemp fiber does.
I would like to meet people that know the proper medicinal ways to use herbs like Artemisia absinthium, Cannabis Indica, Pueraria lobata, and many other of the gifts of nature that work better than the drugs most doctors prescribe.

"What a wonderful world it would be if every citizen of Planet Earth would stop arguing for just five minutes and play the harmonica. The future is within reach. -James F. Antaki"

I love the Blues, Bluegrass, Roots Rock, Classic Rock, Old Time Nostalgic and Novelty Tunes, and Songs about Dogs. I am a geek when it comes to Dogs. I once cared for 2 old Golden Retrievers that were Therapy Mascots for US Veterans in a VA Hospital Domiciliary. I was their last Veteran Caretaker for 6 months before Barney and Fred were retired from Service to the farm of a retiring Nurse to live out their last days. I have had numerous family and friends trust me to help them train and care for their Dogs over the years and now I have the first dog of my very own since I was a child. I chose the Chihuahua because they are known as the dog with the longest average life span and they are like a breed apart from nearly all other dogs except a couple other small breeds which are similar. I was very fortunate to get a dog that was exactly what I was in need for. He gets me up in the morning and makes me move. He calms me at night and helps me sleep and keeps me calm when I get anxious. He brings me joy at times when I am sad. He entertains me when I am bored. He gives me warmth when I am cold. He is just small enough to be very portable yet just large enough to be feisty and strong. Duke is my full-time job. We are often mistaken for a 2 headed beast that looks part Human with a touch of Canine sprouting out of my chest as he loves to ride in my coat or arms. I often tell him:
"eres mi corazón"...
