Sounds Likethe stuff you hear in elevators and quiet restaurants, except we’re really there. On occasion we get to do some funk/fusion stuff that lets us stretch a bit - for the most part NOT on the paying gigs.

   About QuintEssential Jazz
QuintEssential is all about great music made famous by jazz legends like Charlie, Miles and Dizzy. Classic jazz that soothes your soul or gets your feet moving with melodies so familiar they are known as "standards." QuintEssential adds a twist of modern to that classic jazz sound with electric keyboard and bass. From intimate gatherings to jazz festivals QuintEssential enjoys sharing the gift of music with appreciative audiences. If classic jazz is your thing we would love to share our music with you.

QuintEssential has performed at various functions for the Langley Jazz and Blues Festival, World Vision, Hope International, Trinity Western University, and a host of private gatherings. We are currently receiving a variety of requests for wedding gigs thanks to an inexpensive add in a local paper!

The band was formed with no intention of becoming a working band, it just sort of happened. We are all jazz enthusiasts, but this remains a side hobby. None of us have the intention of making this a career, we’re just having fun playing music together. If we didn’t play another gig, we’d still jam for the fun of it and the love of the music.

The band is currently booking through Gigmasters.com, and receiving regular requests - even a year in advance. With two CD’s out and consistent traffic on their website, the band continues to be busy

Our first CD was recorded live in one eveing (2.5 hours) with each member (except Fred) coming back to the studio to redo parts - about 2 hours of work each. That’s why it’s called"Almost Live". Of the seven songs on the CD, two are standards, one an arrangement of Amazing Grace, and four original songs from the band. In January ’07 Dean moved to Salmon Arm, so we are now a Quintet once again, and finding a new voice.

Their next recording project, a Christmas CD (Dec 2007), was recorded in two days, with one additional evening devoted to fixing parts via punch-in, at Turtle Recording in White Rock. Live off the floor, no click (except one song) to good ol’ 2" TAPE (yes, it still exists). Doug Dunbar (guitar) handled the project from there, mixing and mastering at home in Tracktion 3. Very little editing took place, and he can’t afford Auto-tune, so what you hear is what was played. Standard practice for jazz, but very unorthodox for those in the pop world - Ya, were proud of it, clams and all.
