About me: Quortina Phipps, Mezzo-Soprano was named the 2007 Greater Memphis Arts Council Emerging Artist. Originally from Memphis,TN, she has been married for 6 years. She graduated with distinction from LeMoyne-Owen College in 2006. Mrs. Phipps is currently pursuing her masters degree in Music with a concentration in Opera Performance at the University of Memphis. She is an aspiring Opera Singer. Since college, Quortina has participated in an Italian Opera Study Abroad Program with Pieralba Soroga, located in Pisa, Italy and in a two week tour performing concerts all over Paris, France. Mrs. Phipps sings with the Opera Memphis Company where she has performed in "Cavelleria Rusticana", "I Pagliacci", "Tosca", "The Merry Widow", "Samson and Dalila", "Amahl and The Night Visitors", " Il Trovatore", "Carmen", and "Macbeth". Quortina made her debut performing the roles of Annie and The Strawberry Woman in "Porgy and Bess" in October of 2006. In February of 2006, for Opera Memphis she presented a 50 show tour called "The Life of Marian Anderson" and with the Como Opera Guild recreated the "1939 Easter Concert" given by Marian Anderson.

Hey Quortina I am in Italy, and today I went to Pieralba's house and I told her about you and Calvin's success in Opera. She says that she is so proud of you and would love to see you again. I have panned two concerts for this summer in Italy one will be in a Castle in the Tuscan Hills.

Macbeth was amazing last night. Congrats on the stellar performance. I hope I can come again Tuesday night. It's one of the best Opera Memphis productions I have ever seen. Bravo!
