I began DJing in 1996 as an apprentice at Montclair State University’s 90.3 WMSC radio station. After a short time at the station, I started my own goth/industrial program called, “The Continuum,” with regular guest, DJ Helix. In 1998, we were approached about opening up a new section of local night club, QXT’s. The owners were looking to re-open their downstairs on Saturday nights with a goth/industrial format, and Scott and I jumped at the opportunity. For a few years, DJ’s Dysfunction and Helix (at the time simply known as DJ’s Ben and Scott, respectively) spun both popular and cutting edge goth/industrial/synth-pop, sharing the back room dance floor, while DJ Ron Medina manned the decks on the main floor. With the help of then promoter, Damian Plague, they helped bring in a new group of goth/industrial fans, and helped to establish QXT’s as one of the top goth/industrial clubs not only in New Jersey, but in the entire area.
After the renovation of the downstairs into two separate rooms, I moved into what became “the industrial room.” My focus became mainly on spinning industrial music in its various forms, while throwing in a few surprises here and there. I had the pleasure of keeping new crops of industrial fans happy with both the hits and newer, cutting edge music for over 10 years at QXT’s, and as a guest DJ at various other venues.
In 2005, I took over as one of tow head promoters and booking agents for QXT’s, along with DJ Wintermute. After his departure in late 2006, I brought in Eric Delord from Ritual Filth for assistance, particularly with Fridays, but essentially took on the responsibilities of head promoter.
Currently, I’m taking some time to relax and focus on various interests, while keeping an eye out for new and exciting projects and opportunities.
