For centuries Sri Lanka has slowly been turning away from its rich cultural heritage. A heritage soaked in Blood, Brutality, War and Hate as well as being entrenched in Peace,
Honor and Mind warping Spiritualistic rituals. In 2008 a group of Individuals decided to
address this slow fade of ancient knowledge. Out Of their longing to see their countries
culture revert to the times of old, Raaksha was born.
Formed in the early dawn of 2008, Beelzebub and Deshapriya came together with a
concept which Raaksha Projects. The concept of projecting the beauty and
atrocity of ancient realms to modern day society.
Raaksha's music can be characterized as Srilankan Folk music
with an equal footing with Raw Black Metal sounds with monotonous guitar
riffs which will take you to a hypnotic trance and with bowel shaking bass and
animalistically decimated drum lines and traditional
Sri Lankan percussions with Inhuman Shrieks and growls.
Raaksha Speaks of a lost generation of self Sufficient, noble yet fierce humanitarian
race that ruled Sri Lanka in medieval ages. Raaksha focuses more on their rituals, Dark
arts, scarification, Demonology, ancestor worshiping, Patriotism, the suffering of the
people during the colonial days and mainly almighty based religions. Most of Raaksha's
Work is done in the Ancient Language of Singhela. The Language which is used was specially
parlance in the 10th and 11th century AD.
Raaksha withdraw influences from nature, Demonic and healing Rituals in the low country of Sri Lanka.
Alongside with musical influences from bands like Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone ,Bathory, Bethlehem, Om, Dissection, Borknagar,
Isolation, Drudhk and Sri Lankan Black Metal
Gods Siblings of hatred and Forlorn Hope.
***)Currently Raaksha is working on there upcoming Possible Full Length Album titled Mahason Haalla which is about an ancian Sri Lankan War hero who reincarnates as a Deamon.
***)The newest track from Raaksha titled "Susaana Jujaawa" will be released via a three way split with Pioneers of Sri Lankan Depressive Suicidal Black Metal, Plecto Aliquem Capite and POGROM from all the way in United States.
