Rabnett 5 grew out of a trio gig that Mike, Dan, and Rich played at the Montmartre Cafe in East Vancouver every Friday night in 2001. While this group was playing arrangements of standard tunes, Rich was writing for a slightly larger group that debuted at our favorite Vancouver venue, the Sugar Refinery. Rest was recorded in the late summer of 2002 and on the heels of this recording the band began touring regularly, playing Jazz venues and Festivals from Vancouver to Montreal.
Since those early days, the group has improved as steadily as the players themselves, with highlights including 2 CBC recordings, various nominations for best recording, emerging band, composer, and a huge gig for 10's of thousands at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
