I am from a musical family. I grew up listening to my father play classical piano and my brother Jeff play guitar in a pop rock band.
I play many instruments , sing, act and also enjoy writing arrangements.
My first instrument was the piano. I took lessons beginning at the age of four. I remember missing saturday morning cartoons to go and my teacher scolding me at recitals for looking at the audience while I played, rather than the sheet music. I followed in my younger brother Mike's footsteps and played trumpet in my junior highschool band. Then in highschool I joined every choir they had to offer .
American public education provided me with all my formal training. After highschool I continued music on my own. I found a cheap alto sax in a pawn shop on telegraph st in Berkeley and started learning tunes from the Real Book and playing with recordings untill my sax was stolen. Luckily I still had my trumpet from junior high.
My first professional experience was as a bass player with Sweet Mama. I toured all of western europe with them for a year and a half. Following that I met a great actress, Mahé Frot, with whom I was initiated to theater. We wrote a play that was quite successful and the show went on for 5 years. I also worked as a percussionist with L'Oranger for two years and as a drummer in California in various groups.
Since 2001 I have played in many groups for whom I enjoy arranging including a brass band, an accapella group, an all girl band with a repertoire varying from old mo-town tunes to latin jazz.
Jazz however has won over my heart and I now concentrate on singing and playing jazz standards from the 30s on. I have been lucky to play with some really great musicians both in France and in San Francisco including Jim Aton , Charles Bellonzi, Lee Bloom, Domenico Stocchi, Geoffrey Young, Loic Cavadore, Felix Baray, Mike Waters, David Udolph, Terry Rodriguez, Jean Yves Moka, John Barton, Alban Mourgues and many many more.
Music is my refuge. My greatest hope is simply to share the power and emotion of music with others on this earth. It is unifying and universal. A great source of pleasure and release.
