Books
Yes, I love books. I especially love YA books. It's hard to single out favorites when there are so many great YA authors whose books I enjoy, but I will say I'm particularly attached to any books by Patricia McCormick, David Levithan, Markus Zusak, and Jaclyn Moriarty. There are so many more YA authors whose books I adore...and many of them are on MySpace, so I hope you'll check 'em out in my Friends profiles.
Amongst "adult" (zzzz) authors, I pretty much love anything by Dawn Powell, Graham Greene, Ellen Gilchrist, Evelyn Waugh.
Random list of some favorite books:
A Confederacy of Dunces; An Actual Life; Angela's Ashes; Cash: The Autobiography by Johnny Cash; Franny and Zooey; Cut; Sold; Dangerous Angels; Feed; Gone with the Wind; High Fidelity; I Capture the Castle; Lady: My Life As a Bitch; Me Talk Pretty One Day; Mr. Vertigo; My Brilliant Career; Sleeping Arrangements; Slightly True Story of Cedar B. I for the life of me, cannot find Gingerbread, Shrimp and Cupcake anywhere other than my Town Library. My local book store said they don't know if they can order it in, My dilema; theres a part in Shrimp I think, where Shrimp gives CC the Kiwibird ring... Can anyone tell me the line that's something about her thinking the ring symbolizes him wanting to go to NZ and not lose her? I'll most appreciate it. ;D
im such a huge fan, i went and saw nick and norahs infinite playlist and i was like wow that is so good then i saw the book out and i thought to myself,'i wonder who wrote this?' low and behold my favorite author!!!! i was impressed and i personally believe you need to either make a movie or tv show out of the books gingerbread, shrimp and cupcake. they would be incredible!! i still re read them all the time. i just ordered another one of your books, pop princess, ive literally been searching for the past 6-8 months for it and could find it anywhere. never even thought about looking for it online until my boyfriend mentioned it :) anyways,i just had to let you know that youre a great writer and i love all your books
I’m just back from my morning break at work. Good coffee, cereal bar, good book. My slice of nirvana amidst the grey hues of planet wage slave.
I’m 146 pages into ’You Know Where To Find me’ and realise how much the book has crept up on me, as the characters slowly reveal more of themselves, I realise how much I *care* about them.
The absolute moment of anchor being Bex opening up and not being the husk that I thought she was going to be, although judging from the inner depth of Jamal and how much he understands Miles, it shouldn’t surprise me that this is the reason he likes Bex so much and is tempted to go beyond dating his own race, after his earlier protestations that he would never. Which in turn, makes the reflection of how that echoes and gnaws at miles all the more heartbreaking.
A *wonderful* read thus far, my head is full of it – and I really wanted to share and once again to say thank you.
I'm adoring Nick & NOrah the book at the moment, about a quarter of the way to go.
At first it was strange getting my head around certain aspects, the tweaks and changes..and i'm sure if i'd read the book first i'd have been angry at the film.
I eventually got to the peace of them existing side by side by Radio of all things. For example, Paranoid Android is an amazing song, 6.32 of absolute bliss, contrasts, movements, emotions. If you tweaked, edited and remixed it down to a 3 minute pop song, it would still be a fabulous pop song.. but dear Lord the original, with it's passions and intricacies is *so much more*
I'm reading Nick & Norah at work and David's 'Realm Of Possibility' at home. *STUNNING* BOOK .. and nearly wept towards the end when three stories tie together, particularly the one which related back to the story of the profound graffiti from earlier in the book.
Hope all is well - and thank you and David for so much escapism and genuine inspiration.
I agree with the last two girls. YOU NEED TO MAKE GINGERBREAD, SHRIMP, AND CUPCAKE INTO A MOVIE!!! Please Please Please? I know it would be hard to do, but i'll do ANYTHING to help make that happen!!! If there is anything, I doubt it. But yeah, if there is, TELL ME!
Gingerbread and Shrimp are my two fav books. : ) Love them so much, haven't read Cupcake yet, can't find it. D; Is it out here? ;S I agree with the last girls comment, making them into movies would be grand. -Your books are amazing. ;D
Miss Rachel, I have a few things I would like to say, 1. I bought Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List two days ago, I have like 20 pages left, its a fantastic book! 2. I love the reference to Cyd. 3. I love that you talked about The Lost Dog Cafe, because I live kind of close to it. 4. Nick and Norah is out on DVD today and I'm going to go out and get two copies ASAP. I'm sending one to my friend who is in France and just as obsessed with the book as I am. the part I'm most excited about with the dvd is the commentary of you and David talking about the movie and book. :D I'm also very excited for your next book that comes out in a year haha. <33 Keep up the amazing writing! and I want you to know how much your writing means to me and all of my friends. <3
I love the Gingerbread series and I just have to say that Cyd reminds me of a incredible person, her name is Amanda Palmer. It's like they have the same vibe or something.
