True ventured into indie filmmaking with Gregg Araki's "Nowhere," the third installment in his "apocalypse trilogy," in which she won acclaim for her portrayal of Mel, a sexually confused central cog of Araki's dystopian soap opera. She also played a veteran rave girl in Greg Harrison's "Groove." both movies premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

True was then cast as the lead in the hit UPN comedy, Half & Half. She played the character of Mona Thorne, a wacky, twenty-something music industry executive in San Francisco working on strengthening her relationship with the half sister who has just moved into her apartment building. She received an NAACP lead actress nomination for her role. The show enjoyed four seasons remains on TV, twice a day in wide syndication. Rachel has since appeared on Logo Networks, Noah's Arc, in the the Queen Latifah starring and produced, "Perfect Holiday", and "The Killing Of Wendy", shot on loacation in South Africa.
