Rachel Smith (voice, piano, organ, guitar).
There are many guest musicians on the songs posted here including Krista Muir (voice), Tamara Williamson (keys), Jonathan Seet (atmospheric guitars), Mitch Girio (bass), Karl Mohr (accordian!) and Morgan Doctor (drums).
Rachel made her first record, "the clearing," an eclectic pop experiment, in 2001. She then teamed up with Tamara Williamson, doyenne of Toronto's indie scene, and created a more stripped-down record, "Famous Secrets," at Tamara's farm studio in rural Ontario. This CD lived in a drawer for three years while Rachel studied Greek mysticism at Harvard. In 2005 she did a tour with Ocean Music in France, living as an artist in residence at the Toulousian extravaganza, "rentree des artistes," and playing with spectacular French musicians around the country. In the past few years she has performed with artists such as Dawn Landes, Lederhosen Lucil, Jonathan Seet, and Ron Sexsmith, composed the soundtrack for the dance film "Lapinthrope," and studied Byzantine chant in Greece. After years of waiting, "Famous Secrets" has been pulled from the drawer and been released.
Great to hear from you. Had a lovely chat with Heidi the other night. Yes, I've got some photos up on face book and this is me pregnant on my profile but you can't really tell. They say they'll induce me this Thursday or Friday, so should be fun. Call me when you are driving up to Huntsville at Christmas, as I think I'll be too lame to take the trip this year with the wee one. I'm already feeling nervous about having to drive back from St. Mics once she's born. Take Care and miss ya Danielle
I'm due November 20th. I'm on bed rest though, so have more time to email. HOw's your life? Is all well? Still making music? Heard the new Joni Mitchell?
