JULY '08 RACHEL STACY INTERVIEW WITH NEWS OK:
Q: How did you get started in music?
A: I began music, I think, as I came out of the womb. My mother was a touring artist, and I toured with her until the age of 3. I began singing very young and began violin in third grade, then guitar in my later years. When I was aware what poetry was, that was the beginning of my songwriting. After many years of different projects, while attending the University of California-Irvine, I would drive to Los Angeles on the weekends and play at The Cat Club (Slim Jim from the Stray Cats' music venue). This is where I began building a fan base and began playing on a regular basis. After filling the house after many shows, I began playing all over Los Angeles. Then I began to tour around the country a couple years later with artists such as ZZ Top, George Thorogood, Keith Anderson, then this last year with Oak Ridge Boys, Joe Diffie, Phil Vassar, Alice in Chains Unplugged, and a few days ago, Willie Nelson. I love my Willie!
Q: What was that like?
A: I had the most amazing experience of my life. Willie loves to meet his fans and learn about them. This is what I strive for also. He is one of my musical influences.
Q: What's your motivation to play?
A: The fans. I love to make someone's day and give them hope through music or share with them the experience I'm singing about.
Q: What do you like to write about? What does it say about you?
A: Strength. I grew up in a very unstable environment. Through it all, I learned how to grow up on my own and learned my niche in life. Although not easy, this world of music I live in, I learned it's what I'm here on this Earth to do.
Q: What was your first show like?
A: My friends came from all over to watch me play at The Cat Club on Sunset Strip, so having them there with me was amazing. I was so nervous. I was shaking like a leaf. It was a night to remember. I remember thinking, "This is only the beginning! I have a long road ahead of me.”
Q: How long does it take to pay your dues to get famous?
A: That I don't know. I don't want to be famous. I want to do music. If I died tomorrow, I want to be remembered for my songs, being an example and chasing my dreams. That's what it's all about.
Q: What are the biggest pitfalls in music today? How do you avoid them?
A: Pitfalls are selling out and giving up. Stay who you are, and you will last forever. Change for the masses, and you are short-lived. By becoming a better writer, fiddle player, guitarist or whatever, I take pride that I work hard, then get to watch the results of staying true.
Q: Anything else?
A: Our record is set to be released by Hat Creek Records end of summer, and we have only 100 special copies left to sell live at the show before it hits stores. Come get your copy!

Has nature touched you? When was the last time that you watched a sunset or reveled in the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us? Perhaps you also have the talent to write a poem about nature. Take a moment to look around you. Open yourself up and appreciate what a beautiful world we live in. Then take a pen and write your feelings down on paper. Then please send it to me. Your friend Danny Mac *
