Nearly two years after the release of her debut solo album Funky Dory, Rachel Stevens returns with Come And Get It, a sensational second album featuring songs so strong and inventive they are simply impossible to ignore.
A rich mix of stylish, decadent and sophisticated sounds, Come And Get It pure pop gold. Featuring a collection of hits including Negotiate With Love, the defiant, breezily self-confident So Good, smash hit Some Girls and the glam-tastic I Said Never Again, the album is brimming with a exciting and eclectic selection of songs.
Working closely with a few of the UK's hottest talents including Richard X, Rob Davis, former S Club collaborators Jewels & Stone, and, in something of an Alishas Attic reunion, both Karen and Shelley Poole, Rachel has made an album she's really proud of. From the frenetic Crazy Boys to the melodic tour de force of Nothing Good About This Goodbye; from the electro laced ballad I'll Be There to the sultry, dirty bassline of Je M'Appelle, Come And Get It is an album for anyone who appreciates pop music at its best.
The style and swagger of these songs, and many others recorded since autumn 2004, demonstrate a real leap forward for Rachel. While she is justly proud of first album Funky Dory, Rachel happily admits that it represented only the first step in pinpointing her personality as a solo star. It would be a boring life if I just released the same album every two years, she explains. Coming out of S Club, where I was often just one voice, face of personality among several others, it was difficult to know where I should have been heading. The Funky Dory album helped me realise where I wanted to go and the successes of Some Girls and LA Ex were an encouraging sign that thats what other people liked, too. In fact, they liked it so much that Funky Dory hit the Top Ten after just one week, with total sales of over a quarter of a million, and LA Ex wound up as one of 2003s biggest sellers.
Over the past year Rachel has really gained confidence as a solo artist, with several Top 10 hits under her belt, recently crowned as Glamour Magazines Woman Of The Year, a performance at the Olympic bid celebrations in Trafalgar Square and the first female ever to front the Everyman Cancer Trust campaign, resulting in the most successful viral campaign to date. Reflecting her growing confidence, Rachel also invited fans to experience her journey as a solo artist in an access-all-areas Channel 4 documentary, Rachel Stevens: My World, giving us a rare insight into the very core of pop star life.
I'm really proud of this album says Rachel. Ever since I started working in music its been about releasing great pop tracks that everyone can dance and have fun to, but this time I also wanted to express more of myself and give people a few surprises along the way. Although Ive matured I still want to keep pop fun but a little naughtier!
