Radical Sons: Throwing Knives EP

Bummed out by the meathead Midwestern emo kids and aging hippie wannabies they found themselves surrounded by, St. Louis teens Nick Risler and Benjamin Goldstein became fast friends. Cutting class to hang out and skateboard in the Delmar Loop. Playing old Television and Velvet Underground records on their local underground radio station. You could call it their own quiet rebellion.
But like so many of these stories go, it wasn’t long before the call to crank the volume overtook them. So Risler and Goldstein dutifully answered, picking up a couple guitars and enlisting the services of Geoffrey Phillips and Patrick Shields to fill out a rhythm section and bring Radical Sons to life.
The boys got their feet wet opening for critically acclaimed bands like The Strokes side project Little Joy, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, & Be Your Own Pet. In the summer of 2009, St. Ives, a subsidiary label of Secretly Canadian/ Jagjaguwar records, released the band's debut Throwing Knives EP. Only a few weeks after finishing high school The Sons embarked on their first major tour promoting the EP. The band trekked from their native midwest up the east coast, playing with hotly tipped bands such as GIRLS and Jeff the Brotherhood along the way.
The Radical Sons have recently garnered attention from media outlets such as Pitchfork and The Tripwire, as well as been awarded the title of Best Garage Rock Band in St. Louis for 2009 by the (Village Voice owned) Riverfront Times newspaper.
The Radical Sons are currently writing & recording new material in Brooklyn New York.
