Hi! Here we are, finally. First of all, let me introduce myself: my name is Carlo Basile, and I've been, without any doubt at all, the strongest rock international executive in the Italian record industry. I've worked hard and I've launched hundreds of artists, and still, nowaday, I'm looking around for new talents ( you can see, for details, my career steps in the general informations on the left).The heavy passion for music has always been the "spring" that has pushed me to jump into the music business, but very often I had to fight with the poor professionality of many of my collegues and the unfair competing firms in the domestic record business. My past activities seem to demonstrate that I have a great musical insight, that has always worked really fine as a filter with the rock & pop taste of the italians: in other words, what I like, seems meeting quite perfectly the appreciation of all the passionate people and fans of the pop repertoire and the so said rock oriented freaks (called in our country "rockettari"!).
I've decided to open this blog, in order to offer a free service to the younger generations using my experience and my know how: RADIO BASILE intent is to point out not only some of the famous rock stars of the past, but also and mainly the new talents both international and domestic In particular,the Italian new generation, remain generally unsigned, due to the second-rate "performances" of the current executives of the record companies here, and so they are not able to find an artistic and commercial way out on our market.So, I WANT FINALLY TO CLEAR THAT ALL TRACKS WILL NOT BE DOWNLOADABLE FROM THE PLAYER, and instead, for full appreciation of their artistry, go in the street and buy their cd albums,ep's or singles. That's important and crucial for the music industry and also for the artists. Money it's not all, but helps!
In short, in our intention, RADIO BASILE would like to become a solid datum- point for all the people that love yesterday's and today's music, and will accept our suggestions on the artists to listen and buy. CARLO BASILE PERSONAL CAREER
Born in Rome...many years ago! Degree in Law at "La Sapienza" Rome University". From 1968 Editorial Director of the epic first Italian weekly magazine of music and comics strips "Off-Side" and member of the editorial staff of many musical magazines (Titan Avant Garde, Nuovosound, Ciao 2001, Supersound, Audiovisione, etc). From 1969 "promotion manager" at the Rome office of EMI Italiana. From 1970 to 1972, co-operates in the musical editing of the famous national radio program “Per voi giovani”, run by Paolo Giaccio and Mario Luzzatto-Fegiz, writing texts for the speakers and than live in the air as dj, introducing "one rock album per day". From 1972, international a&r manager at the headquarter of RCA italiana, later RCA/BMG, responsible of all international repertoire both of the in house labels (RCA/Arista) and all international distributed labels (Chrysalis,Stiff Rec.,Sire,Chiswick, Motown,etc) . From 1989, head of the BMG Italy music video division. From 1995 up to1999, "diverted" as head of the BMG Italian distributed labels department.
To my artistic intuitions and to my prefessional qualities are due, in Italy, the success of more than 50 artists of real big fame, like, just to mention some of them, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Grand Funk Railroad, The Nice, the 4 ex Beatles, I Nomadi, Alan Sorrenti, Francesco Guccini, Eurythmics, Jefferson Airplane, Hall and Oates, The Who, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, The Sweet, The Ramones, The Talking Heads, Madonna, Suicide, The Boys, The Damned, Lene Lovich, Ian Dury & The Blockheads,The Pretenders, Spandau Ballet, Jethro Tull, Ultravox, Blondie, Pat Benatar, Huey Lewis & The News, Billy Idol, The Housemartins, Patti Smith, Bruce Hornsby, Jeff Healey Band, Whitney Houston, Elio e le Storie Tese, Pitura Fresca, Prozak +, Latte e i suoi Derivati, Bisca, Alma Megretta, etc...well, not too bad, i would say! lol!
