The death tax isn’t a progressive or conservative issue: It’s an economic one. Special interest groups, supported by the insurance industry, continue to make the argument that the death tax provides badly needed services during the economic recession. But the death tax accounts for less than 2% of the federal budget. And services, alone, aren’t the answer to ending the Great Recession.

Insurance companies spend millions of dollars every year lobbying the government to protect the Death Tax so they can charge small employers billions more for “second-to-die” insurance coverage. President Obama and many Democratic Congressional delegates have expressed support for family business and see small businesses as the basis of a strong economy. We are hopeful that President Obama and Congress will hold true to their rhetoric.

Conservatives and progressives agree that this country needs jobs. Repealing the death tax would create 1.5 million jobs. To create those jobs, small businesses need the government to relieve the death tax burden that forces them to pay huge insurance premiums and cut back in their businesses.

Profiting off of people’s deaths is wrong. Taxing hardworking small business owners who provide millions of jobs doesn’t make sense. We hope you’ll get involved and learn more.
