It's all about south Florida radio programming, personalities, and history, covering Broward County, Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade County.
There's something for everyone: music & talk fans, radio professionals, DXers, and of course radio geeks.
There is absolutely no connection with Clear Channel, James Crystal Radio, Infinity CBS Radio, Cox Radio, XM, Sirius, Jefferson-Pilot Lincoln Financial, or any other huge corporation that has participated in the destruction of local radio. I just write about and complain about them. I am the former owner of James Crystal Radio, however. I built a crystal radio when I was a kid and I called it James.
Music: Little-Known 1980s Tiny Tim Video Discovered: Do You Think I'm Sexy?
(South Florida Radio News -- September, 2006) ... Gary Lawrence, who was music director of the WLQY Music Of Your Life Orchestra and bandleader of the WFTL Orchestra, recorded several songs with Tiny Tim and his own band, Gary Lawrence and his Sizzling Syncopators (GLSS), in his
inimitable 1920s style.
Now the video of my favorite,
Do You Think I'm Sexy, by Tiny Tim with Gary Lawrence and His Sizzling Syncopators, has been converted to a digital file. (Unlike Rod Stewart's version, you can actually understand the funny lyrics.)
This video was recorded right here in Broward County, Florida, at a nightclub in Pompano Beach, a hotel in a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, and other locations.
Even though he was best known for his novelty song, Tiptoe Through The Tulips, Tiny Tim was a serious musicologist (music historian). He performed this
song with GLSS in the style of Al Jolson. He also recorded Feelings with GLSS in the style of Bing Crosby.
Merry Christmas ya old fart... Hey, I know it isnt South Florida, but I found a pirate station in Louisville Kentucky broadcasting on 99.3. I cant find any info about it, but their is a construction permit for a religious station on that frequency held by Edgewater Broadcasting. I hear the Dance music has been on that freq for at least two years. Is it edgewater broadcasting illegal until the official license is granted, or is it someone totally different. The only ID I hear is they say Energy Dance Radio once an hour, which could be a number or internet only rebroadcasts. Anyway, I just thought I would let ya know, maybe some of the readers of your page can contact me to help me find more info on them. Merry Christmas David.....
That's great to hear. I wonder if he still hangs out at Dodas in Ft. Lauderdale? I once ran into him and The Bird (Glen Hill) at Lums in Davie. Heck of a nice guy.
Whatever happened to the South Florida radio legends like Don Cox, Bill Tanner, Greg Budel, Rick & Suds, Johnny Dark, Steve Stansel, ect.. Seems like Neil Rogers and Rick Shaw are the only ones still around.
