    radioroxanne's Interests
Generalpainting, collage, reading, writing, radio, activism, radio-activism, internet activism, self-employment, swimming, walking, hiking, music, lying in the sun doing nothing, biking, rollerblading, cooking, gardening, naps, working out, playing with my high maintainence hamster named 'teebedabeebeda', (UPDATE: teebs died in oct. '06--i haven't had the heart to say so until now...); meeting new people, being anywhere under the sky with feet on the planet, and sometimes under water... love my nieces, time with my family: yelling at the tv with my mother when stupid news is on, laughing and dancing with my sister and her kids and my brother and his kids... looking out at the world and living with gratitude and celebration, in spite of the vagaries of existence and the exit always on the horizon... why is the sky blue? how did i get here? what are you laughing at? what is time? will i run out of space in this message before i can ask and answer all these questions? MusicLove it all... I have a bizarre and all-over-the-board taste in music. Come from a cross-cultural family background. Parents very different from one another. Father was Sicilian immigrant and mom is Polish--in their day, and in their families, that was a big deal. He was 18 yrs older than her, so there was a huge variety of music [and food!!] in my family all the time, because there was also the music of mine and my sibs generation... Love it ALL! Soundtracks from films, and music from artists once-from-bands-gone-solo, and music that is cross-genre --all these are often what pique my interest. UPDATE on PROFILE Song, Tues., 24 July, '07: For Radio Roxanne's theme music, I originally chose "What's Up?" by the 4 Nonblondes bec. it was the first piece of music I heard in the '90's that made me break down and get into digital music technology--My first CD, and then it was my profile song here for a bit. This song blows me away--The vocal range of Linda Perry, the genre is hard to categorize, the theme, the lyrics--It's a powerful anthem to our times. Here's a link to an interview about the song: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1853 But in Feb., '07 the song mysteriously disappeared from Myspace... So I have a new theme song... I chose "I'll Take You There", the 1972 hit by the Staple Singers. Here's some info on this remarkable and timeless cross-genre folk-rock-soul song: Stax Records president Al Bell (born Avertis Isabell) wrote this after attending the funeral of his little brother, who was shot to death. Says Bell: " "I went out in the backyard in my father's home. He had an old school bus there parked that was not running. I went back there and sat on the hood of that bus thinking about all that was happening. And all of a sudden, I hear this music in my head. And I heard these lyrics: 'I know a place, ain't nobody worried, ain't nobody crying, and ain't no smiling faces lying to the races, I'll take you there.' "I heard it, and I heard the music. And it wouldn't leave, it stayed there. kept trying to write other verses, but I couldn't. Nothing worked - there was nothing left to say." Here's a url to info about the song: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2173

About me:
I love life. I love the sky, water, sun, earth, and I love to breath. I love my nieces, my mother, my brothers and sisters--My whole family. I love all living beings -- human and non-human. That's the good part. Here's the bad part: I live in a culture where these things, places, people, and non-humans are being killed all the time and -progressively moreso- by governments which embrace the "rights" of corporations instead of enforcing and protecting the needs of communities to live in harmony with one another and with the earth; a time when the carrying capacity of the planet is FAR exceeded with over 6 billion people over-consuming; a time when the chief energy source (oil) on which this culture of over-consumption depends is peaking in its availability; a time of rising totalitarianism; a time when every living creature on the planet is being threatened with extinction, again, because of this culture of economics based on consuming... ...WHICH is also a time when we are seeing the planet communicate to us from every biosphere that these conditions are not tenable, and hence we have global warming / climate change. (That's a good part--That the earth is communicating to us...) Here's the other good part: I use my experience in these times, on this planet, in this kleptocratic nation in which I live, and -- with my writing, visual art, radio and audio work, and activism -- I translate my experiences into something better; something which communicates what I love, and what I hate, and what must be changed and how---By sharing how others live by helping to tell their stories. I use my art to change the world--It's my tool, my weapon, my language, my life I give back to the planet responsible for my life. I intend for my life to make it possible for the world to be a better place 100-150 yrs from now, and well-beyond that. Here is my website, where you can learn more about my art, read my writing, and hear my shows .....: visit www.spiritmorphstudio.com

Thanks. I don't post there as much as I used to. I got tired of butting heads with people. I also ran out of things to say (they talk about the same things over and over) and wanted to quit being a post hog.

Here's a reason why we shouldn't/needn't be afraid of death:

I'm not blessed, or merciful. I'm just me. I've got a job to do, and I do it. Listen: even as we're talking, I'm there for old and young, innocent and guilty, those who die together and those who die alone. For some folks death is a release, and for others death is an abomination, a terrible thing. But in the end, I'm there for all of them.

PS: If I keep writing "scr" instead of "src" I could try forever and won't insert a picture. Duh! My teacher for computer and stuff was right: The computer can only be as good as the person sitting in front of it.
