Hello nonel,

Thanks for the link to the very funny music/video!

The Unanswered Question is a collage of three distinct layers - strings, flute quartet, and solo trumpet. Each layer has its own tempo and key. Ives himself described the work as a "cosmic landscape" in which the strings represent "the Silences of the Druids—who Know, See and Hear Nothing." The trumpet then asks "The Perennial Question of Existence" and the flutes seek "The Invisible Answer", but abandon it in frustration, so that ultimately the question is answered only by the "Silences".

Music:
The Unanswered Question (1908)

Composer:
Charles Ives

Performers:
Filarmonica della Scala
Gustavo Dudamel – conductor

Hello nonel,

From the fictional film – "Copying Beethoven" -

Because Beethoven is embarrassed that his lack of hearing prevents him from conducting the premiere of the 9th Symphony, his copyist positions herself and conducts the score, while the deaf Beethoven watches and imitates her movements.

All my best,
michael

Hello radiospacepop,

When listening to the intense music of Brahms, one may keep in mind Brahms' attachment to Schumann's wife, the composer and pianist Clara, fourteen years his senior, with whom he would carry on a lifelong, emotionally passionate, but probably platonic, relationship.

Violin Concerto in D major – Move 2 - Adagio

Composer:
Johannes Brahms

Performers:
Gidon Kremer - violin
Wiener Philharmonic Orchestra
Leonard Bernstein

All my best,
michael
